Shrinking S3 Trailer (and renewed for S4)
With guest star Michael J. Fox (playing a buddy for Harrison Ford's character to commiserate with, presumably).

Mrs. Bighorn and I watched Season 3 episode 1 yesterday afternoon. Season 3 is off to a great start.

Great episode, so many things and stuff going on. And yes, you are right, felt like a season finale, and not episode 1. The writing and acting is just so good, some of the best on TV. Excited to see where this season goes.

Is Harrison Ford’s daughter in the show married. I don’t remember. Seems like the next logical place for this show to go is a love interest for Jason Segel’s character. Felt like they were flirting quite a bit at the wedding. Also was a decent topic of conversation between Ford and Segel at the wedding. Too obvious? Too stupid?

I thought it might be headed there too but E2 brings back the Colbie Smulders character from last season.George Zipp wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 17:27 pm Is Harrison Ford’s daughter in the show married. But yes the daughter is married, just to someone Ford doesn't like.

Yes she is married, and yes Harrison Ford does not like him. If you remember last season, they were at his house and his new wife and ex-wife were talking, and the son in law made a comment, and Ford said an all-time line "what if they are talking about how I f**k?" or something along those lines. Classic.
Yes, looks like a HIMYM reunion is in store.

Thanks. And yeah, I posted my hot take above after E1 and before I watched E2 last night. I did just learn that was Colbie Smulders from your post. Didn't pick up on that at all. Hope to see much more of her.3dender wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 21:25 pmI thought it might be headed there too but E2 brings back the Colbie Smulders character from last season.George Zipp wrote: ↑04 Feb 2026 17:27 pm Is Harrison Ford’s daughter in the show married. I'll also throw this out there, and I'm going to look it up. When Roy Kent went to the girls house and the husband (boyfriend, whatever) walks out of the kitchen, that guy looked familiar. I'll figure it out and it may be nobody.

Re: Shrinking S3 Trailer (and renewed for S4)
E3 has me starting to regret telling everyone this is a top show on TV. Where to start with the issues?
1) Liz and Brian are fine in small doses, but them taking center stage really takes the whole series into cartoon territory, whereas its strength has always been staying grounded. Maybe people behave like this in real life, but I've never met them. And they're truly unlikable. Whatever personal work and humility Liz accomplished last season seems to have reset.
2) Gaby got a lot dumber and became a truly awful professional between seasons. They've always played fast/loose with rules of therapy, but again it's becoming cartoonish... you don't just temporarily "swap" therapists, those relationships are built on months and years of trust, there's no such thing as a "substitute" therapist. And you don't harass a client you ran off with your unprofessionalism until she gives you another chance, and then make the 2nd chance all about you and then also leave your notifications on and respond to a text during that session. And you don't just guess what's wrong with your clients, and/or not listen to them at all like she did with Sean.
3) The Sean GF thing is making me feel like I'm insane.
Basically it really feels like the writers didn't have any idea about where to take these characters after S2. E.g. if you have to reset multiple characters' growth in order to create more drama, maybe you've just run out of things to say about them? I wonder if anyone told them that ending the series was an option? Y'know maybe not the most enticing one, but certainly better than converting one of the best shows on TV into an elevated sitcom...

Spoiler
She's clearly toxic and he's incredibly mature to want to have some semblance of amends. He's not the bad guy in the situation... not talking about what went wrong basically guarantees it'll happen again. I kinda think this is where this plotline will end up, but it feels insulting (and like actively harmful relationship advice) that the writers are trying to trick us into believing the opposite in this episode.

I agree on Liz. She's just too over the top to the point where I want her off screen. I thought between moments of being super duper gay that Brian had some nice moments of tenderness with the birth. Maybe the baby will calm his hyper gayness down. Or maybe he will end up at gay orgies while the other guy parents. Remains to be seen.
I do like how they handle Harrison Ford and the illness and facing mortality. Sure he's trading out patients but for the most part it's just the clique seeing different Gabby instead of him. I think everything he has been involved in has been great.
Wasn't sure what to make of the giggling nurse. It's obvious Segel needs to get laid. Was rather hoping it was with Colby Smuthers, and I suspect it still will be. I can see a scenario where he takes the giggling nurse on a date and runs right into Colby. As soon as E4.
I'm still all in on this show and think it's one of the better shows out there but I totally get your points.

I'd bet you've guessed exactly what will happen with Jimmy and Smuthers character. And that's part of the problem of this show, it's becoming so predictable.George Zipp wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 07:41 amI do like how they handle Harrison Ford and the illness and facing mortality. But yes the Harrison Ford stuff is excellent, you're right it's definitely the best part of the show. It's just a shame they've been undercutting it with so much silliness.
S2E3 was the first episode where the obnoxious stuff outweighed the good stuff for me. I thought the S2 premiere was a little off the rails with how much plot they crammed in, but it still mostly stuck the landing. It did leave me wondering where they could possibly go from there. And now with E3 I'm just worried they don't know either.

Spot on. I think we talked about this before … great show, but the dialogue is unrealistic and over the top. They’ve only ramped that up in S3.3dender wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 09:07 amI'd bet you've guessed exactly what will happen with Jimmy and Smuthers character. Also, all of them going to the daughter’s soccer game and being that passionate about it. I guess it’s cool they’re all so close, but let’s be honest, you wouldn’t have that many people so invested in each other’s lives in the real world. I know it’s not the real world, but some of that is hard to suspend disbelief for, imo.

It's definitely aspirational as opposed to realistic, a la Ted Lasso. I can get with that approach but understand those who can't. You also have to keep it somewhat grounded, which they did well imo the first two seasons but not this one.DJ Davis wrote: ↑16 Feb 2026 10:16 am Also, all of them going to the daughter’s soccer game and being that passionate about it. Watched E4 last night. Thought it was again hit and miss episode than what we have been seeing this season
Spoiler
I thought the Derrick eating 600mg of gummies was funny. Knew that was coming as soon as he poached them from his leach child. I didn't see the date with goofy laughing nurse going the way it did. Let's hope we have seen the last of her. Anything involving Harrison Ford has been rock solid this season and it continued last night, just excellent stuff, the highlight of the show for me right now. Liz and the mothering of the newborn and the spying is ridiculous. Her treatment of her son is understandable and I think we all knew it was coming to the place it ended last night. Not a fan of the ex girlfriend of Sean. Really not a fan of this conflict between Gaby and Jimmy. Her setting him up in the teaching thing was silly. Feel like they are setting something up for when Paul retires. Finally, where is Colby Smuthers.

Agree with all this, good rundown... thought this was a good bounce back from E3 but still not great. Still really hate the message being sent to/about Sean with his gf. He's absolutely right and everyone is gaslighting him to think he needs to just relax.George Zipp wrote: ↑19 Feb 2026 09:04 am Watched E4 last night. Do not understand at all Gaby's transformation into a really petty and emotionally unstable person. And again the "Jimmying" thing is just so cringeworthy for anyone who knows anything about basic therapeutic boundaries. It's not even a good idea to be friends with clients AFTER you're done seeing them, let alone before you establish a rapport. I know this is just a glorified sitcom but it's borderline irresponsible to portray that on screen as effective. Most people have enough trouble establishing healthy interpersonal boundaries.

Re: Shrinking S3 Trailer (and renewed for S4)
Gaby tearing into Jimmy was a little much, especially since SHE SLEPT WITH HIM, so not like she was all innocent. That part bugged me, and it seems like for whatever reason they are changing her this season, and I feel a little for the worse. So Michael J. Fox was REAL, except for at the wedding? That threw me off.
