I don't understand all the heartburn over losing a guy like Granillo. Dude gave up over a hit an inning last year and posted a 4.71 ERA with a 1.38 WHIP and struck out 7 batters per 9 innings. Nothing special at all.![]()

So why Granillo, and not guys like Raquet, Pushard, Roycroft???

They like Soriano for one reason: he’s a power arm with swing and miss stuff. That’s why they’ve held onto Roycroft. He not only throws in the upper 90’s, but he has a different delivery/arm slot. They’re stockpiling as many of those arms as they can. Even if only 2-3 turn out to be useful, it’s a good approach. Let’s give it chance to work.

Trust is earned not given. So far, I haven’t seen anything to do so.peterman'srealitytour wrote: ↑11 Feb 2026 19:14 pmSpot on. He must fit a profile or they see something that their pitching analytics guys like . How about we trust their judgment on this one? Is the sky really falling over the loss of Andre Granillo? God forbid we trade Packy Naughton.cardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑11 Feb 2026 15:21 pm They saw something they liked in Soriano and don't see Granillo with a future on this team. This trade isn’t really about losing Granillo, per se! It’s about dealing a pitcher with a very good minor league record, who still has options, and really not been given a chance at the major league level, for a pitcher recently released by multiple teams who has no options and a poor pitching record!
So I ask you, what is there to like about this deal?

Here is what I like about this trade: it was executed by Bloom’s team.Hoosier59 wrote: ↑11 Feb 2026 20:53 pmTrust is earned not given. So, I ask you, do you like the Mariner’s pitching staff? Matt Pierpont who Bloom and Rob Cerfolio brought over from Seattle played an integral in developing their pitching.
How about we trust him to do the analysis instead of worrying about some guy that no one gave a 2nd thought to before this trade?
“Trust is earned not given.” Yes, I think Pierpont has earned a bit more trust than our CT GM wannabes.

Facts, not fawning
Oh my god, I stated that I thought they probably saw something they liked in a pitcher, and they traded a true legend in Granillo to get him, so that means I'm fawning all over the new GM.
Unfortunately you chose to post a valid “opinion” on an “anonymous” forum.
That brings out the squirrels, Internet tough guys, etc etc.
Be grateful that you don’t have to deal with some of these people in “real life”.

Soriano is in the top percentile with fastball speed.
Granillo is a little over 50% percentile.
Cards weren’t first in line to grab him off waivers.
Not every player transaction is looking for the next Bob Gibson.
It might work. It might not. Who cares?
