I am amused at those who declare players exposed and never will bes at age 24 with 400 ABs in the majors. Yes, he needs to improve at the plate to keep a job but it isn't unheard of for players to learn and get better.
He may end up unable to hit ML pitching. But the team is in the position to find out before dumping him for nothing.

Writing off Church after 50 ABs is crazy. He's shown more upside with the bat than Scott in college, in AA, and in AAA. He's led the minor leagues in outfield assists, and he's been named the best outfield defender in the Cardinals system.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 00:35 amEspecially when they don’t have anyone better for centerAZ_Cardsfan wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 00:29 am I am amused at those who declare players exposed and never will bes at age 24 with 400 ABs in the majors. If/when Scott fails, Church should absolutely be given a fair shot in center.
Watch BP live between Scott, Siani, Torres, Church, and you can easily tell which one has the most pop. You'll catch more home runs from Church than the other three combined.
Excited to go to Spring Training in a few weeks to get a look at the new Scott, but Church is my breakout prediction for the year.

They batted 1/2 and roamed the OF together in Peoria in '23, and the defense was fun to watch. I'm sure the pitchers loved it.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 05:04 amNice write. 23 is recent. Good to know. If Church is all that, I can easily see him in left, as left is a hole.cosmo.kramer wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 05:18 amThey batted 1/2 and roamed the OF together in Peoria in '23, and the defense was fun to watch. The team can be very good without an Edmonds/trout type in center as long as they have good players at other positions. The dodgers are the only team in baseball with great players at every position

Who's the 'great' centerfielder the Dodgers have?

Just checked their batting lines while playing together in Peoria (Vic was promoted to Springfield on 6/26, so these are half season):sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 05:25 am23 is recent. Scott .282/.365/.398/.763 (117 wRC+)
Church .314/.392/.402/.794 (127 wRC+)
Would love if they could replicate this. Two of the OF spots would be locked down

Good data. Believe it or not, I feel Walker will get better. How better, well anything will do. If or when that happens we could one day have both the best infield and very good outfield in baseball.cosmo.kramer wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 05:31 amJust checked their batting lines while playing together in Peoria (Vic was promoted to Springfield on 6/26, so these are half season):sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 05:25 am23 is recent. Good defense for a corner, with a strong arm, though I'd place him firmly behind Scott and Church. The ideal defensive alignment would probably be Walker/Baez/Noot in LF with Scott in CF and Church in RF.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 05:55 amI just opened a new thread. Interesting you keep Walker but move him. If Walker were to hit, and force his way into the lineup, where does he go. Noot wont be ready.cosmo.kramer wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 08:11 amGood defense for a corner, with a strong arm, though I'd place him firmly behind Scott and Church. I think he stays in right, with defensive progression, and Church is a lock down left fielder. Gives me 2/3 GG caliber fielders, and an emerging RF, at least defensive. Nice convo.

Oh I definitely don't think they actually move Walker to LF, but that would be the better defensive alignment. I do wonder if Baez sees some action in LF in AAA though, just to get him some reps.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑10 Feb 2026 08:28 amInteresting you keep Walker but move him. And unless we see a different hitter, that's a BIG "IF", I have my doubts but am rooting for the kid since he does have two elite tools.82birds wrote: ↑09 Feb 2026 16:16 pmyup, but there's that IF word again.rockondlouie wrote: ↑09 Feb 2026 08:41 am I'd wait to see what he does this season before "moving on".
IF VSII could just get to a .325-.330 OB% by hitting down on the ball more & learning the art of bunting, then he's a HUGE asset playing Gold Glove level defense in CF and stealing 40-50 bases while making no money.
Re: I think you can look to move Scott II
I think not. Scott II has excellent skills: very good defense in CF, and excellent base stealing success - 39 SB in 44 attempts so far in 191 MLB games. Now he needs to improve his OBP by being more selective at the plate, and concentrate on hitting the ball to the opposite field on a line. He should refrain from trying to hit homers. I have much more faith in him improving at these things this season than Walker and Gorman correcting their faults. Now is not the time to move Victor Scott II.
