IF VSII could just get to a .325-.330 OB% by hitting down on the ball more & learning the art of bunting, then he's a HUGE asset playing Gold Glove level defense in CF and stealing 40-50 bases while making no money.
Agreed. This team needs a lot of work. If he can hold his own offensively, there are plenty of other positions at which we can aim for more offense before we worry about having an offensive machine in CF.

I doubt they spend much time on chat forums.

3rd Base
C
LF (perhaps Noot once he's healthy)
RF

We can live w/both VSII & Winn's lacks of offense due to their great gloves.

But somehow the Redbirds have to find offense from the positions I listed.

A top defensive SS and CF can make up for some defensive deficiencies in the surrouding positions.

But if you surrounding positions have deficiencies…

But if you surrounding positions have significant offensive deficiencies, how deficient can that CF position be (I’m not worried so much about Winn’s hitting).

I don't think you need to move him right now, but I do think we desperately need to be looking now for long term external upgrades well under 30.

I've got I. Hererra there, he's the best bat on the team (hopefully JJW joins him)

The entire OF needs upgrading, has for a long time.

Focusing on power strikeout pitchers like Doyle can make Defense a little less relevent X times per game.

VS2 can’t hit and thus has near 0 trade value.

Disagree. He has minimal trade value but not zero. Dylan Carlson has zero

VS2 = young, speedster, excellent defense and cheap. He is a 4th OF/a defensive replacement/a pitch runner, especially if a team sees him as having the potential to get on base enough to utilize his speed. He did improve from 2024. He would fetch a similar player, a back of the rotation arm, maybe a decent relief pitcher. He's one you take a flyer on.

Carlson, has had no value since the 2022 season. He was traded for a RP from Tampa Bay that they DFA before the season was up. That's no value.

I'm not saying he has great value, but that he has some. That being said, he is worth more as a flyer for the Cardinals to see if he could ever hit enough to justify him being a regular CF for the team while they build around the other positions. It's not like they are trying to salvage an investment in a former 1st round draft pick. I criticize Mo for holding onto players for too long, but VS2 is one that is a low risk bet to hold onto.

Fedde on the other hand was a high risk value to hold onto. Fedde on the other hand was coming off his best season. He had previously washed out of the league and built his value back up. He was a fairly inexpensive risk to see if he could come anywhere near his 2024 numbers. He had moderate value and holding on to him risked losing that value.

Prospects lose all trade value once they are exposed as frauds against MLB pitching. VS2 is currently in the same situation as the others in a long line of failed Cards prospects. He has no trade value unless he shows he can hit for similar numbers against MLB pitching as he did against minor league pitching, and if he does start hitting MLB pitching, the Cards would have no reason to trade him. He’ll be here until he either improves or is dumped for nothing when he hits his higher paid arbitration years.

C-Unit wrote: 08 Feb 2026 19:26 pm I'd keep him around throughout 2026 but would listen on interest, I bet a team would find his skillset intriguing and maybe you can get a AA level SP prospect. re: players we might thin out as roster choices loom into 2027.

For CF I think I would roll Baez out there at some point late 2026-27 and leave him there till he shows you he can't play it. You can always move him to right. You also have Tai Peete not far behind, who seems to be off the charts athletically. For Peete with the strikeout concerns I'd point to a player like JJ Bleday who might make a short career out of that skillset only Peete projects to have many more SBs, and play good CF defense. You can catch lightning in a bottle with a player like that for a few seasons.
Maybe we could get Siani back. Really, he's young, got great speed, plays good defense and can hit more than he weighs. And you want to trade him for an AA prospect.
