IF VSII could just get to a .325-.330 OB% by hitting down on the ball more & learning the art of bunting, then he's a HUGE asset playing Gold Glove level defense in CF and stealing 40-50 bases while making no money.
A lot of doubt on the board. I feel he becomes one day an all star CF a household name.
As noted, about two more on bases per week, times a season, will greatly move the OBP. And that’s any way on base. Not just hits

True. With all the stats available, there are only 3 I am interested in with Scott- games played, on base percentage, and outs above average. If he checks those three boxes, he's my center fielder.

Good write. And he can only get better. That’s the wildcard here. He is at rock bottom. When he emerges, it will be a noticeable uptick.

The obvious key BDog is indeed that OB%.

He needs to spend a ton of time w/Ozzie this spring, learning from the Wizard who increased his OB% (.295 as a Padres vs .350 as a Cardinal) after being taught how to by Whitey.

Get on at that .325+OB% clip and he can steal a lot of bases, even becoming that lead-off man you envision him being!

Someone has to lead off, and no one has his speed or demonstrated stealing ability. As a strategy getting him on base, at lead off, should be an organizational priority.

As is getting an early lead for our young staff. Another priority reference strategy.

Heres my continued stand- he can only get better. He’s at Rock bottom- pun intendedZ

Read where he worked daily on bunting much better. He wasn’t very good last year and certainly needed improvement in that area.

Good points .. also remember that JJ was leadoff at AA and AAA both. So the team has a second option for leadoff.

I see JJ as an RBI man with doubles. I’d hit him three. My number two would be Winn, to handle bat and move Scott up if need be, or Noot if he ever returns.

Sure enough. Your hit. I’m serious. If he JUST gets on base 2 times more, by any means, over a season, he is a stud.

2 more on bases in a week, with maybe 30 at bats to get those two on base events. Two.

GREAT!

And I'd have him attached to Ozzie's hip this spring learning even more about the art of bunting and hitting down on the ball to utilize his speed.

Scott. Just needs to hit.
Walker. Needs to emerge.
Need LF.

I know the key is MLB caliber, but it’s the best we got.

I’ve been somewhat out of the Cardinals loop this offseason, so help me out: Are Noot, Scott II and Walker presently the projected starting outfielders? And, if so, unless one or two of them take a significant step forward, is there a weaker OF in MLB offensively speaking? I realize the latter question is at least partially subjective. Thanks.

VSII = Michael Siani. Both great defensively; both fast, but both can't hit a lick.
No value except as a defensive replacement, and teams can find guys like Siani and VSII.
In short, VSII has no trade value.
