Now that’s a great question. Most like to use Pujols as a leader type comparison, a face to the franchise, you might say.

Let me ask you, when you think of the STL Cardinals, what player immediately pops into your head?
On this 2026 team, no one. There is no Chris Carpenter, Molina type player.

Years ago, Cardinal Captain Terry Moore was the guy to direct the younger players in when to go home. He was once asked what he did when they didn't want to go home. He said he would get Walker Cooper to tell them.

I always thought it was a great story.

There ya go. You got to the edge. If forced to pick, I’d go Winn or Scott as young emerging leaders. Ironically the kevel of leadership will likely depend on the level of performance.

Who is the guy on this team to tell the young players you have had enough to drink, we have a game tomorrow.
Yohel Pozo - 28 years old, if they don't listen to him, he will body slam them into submission!

One year, 4mm for Goldschmidt. With a 110% luxury tax 8.4mm.

Cards in a rebuild. Yanks not. He was hired as a defensive replacement. Yanks have deeper lineup.
This rebuild is totally garbage. He would have been a great bat coming off the bench, a proven player who would have added leadership. Goldschmidt's return not only bolsters the Yankees' offense but also brings leadership to the clubhouse.

If Goldy had signed here, why is he the defacto leader? Because he has grey beard stubble?

Considering how much money Goldschmidt has already made, why would he have even chosen St. Louis at this point in his career for even $6 or $8 million vs. the Yankees and a chance to make the WS for $4 million?

Goldy seams like a good enough guy but he was most definitely NOT a leader

Didn't you hear? Every free agent out there is standing in line waiting for Stl to call.

Whaaaaaaaatt?

You’re suggesting that every free agent is not sitting by the phone, desperately hoping, praying the cards call?

I thought he was the silent type, not a robust leader type.
You don't have to be vocal to be a leader type. You of all people should know that being in the military.
I think he does a great job of leading by example. If that’s the requirement by all means.
Isn't that what leadership is? I always thought so.
Leading by example is indeed a leadership trait. As is enforcing the standard. As is seek responsibility and take responsibility for your actions.

I think there are 12 of them in the military world.
Molina was a perfect example of leadership. He also was a quiet guy in the dugout.
I think Molina was much more vocal. If you want a leadership comparison to goldy, try arenado. Same boat.
Every single thing I've read about Arenado is that he works his rear off...like every player says he's the first one there hitting...taking ground balls etc...they said he eats and sleeps baseball...so he's definitely a lead by example guy ...and not a get in your face type guy

but weren't people saying 2 years ago that there was no leadership from PG/NA?
