On this 2026 team, no one. There is no Chris Carpenter, Molina type player.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026 07:36 amNow that’s a great question. Most like to use Pujols as a leader type comparison, a face to the franchise, you might say.
Let me ask you, when you think of the STL Cardinals, what player immediately pops into your head?
Goldschmidt

Re: Goldschmidt
Years ago, Cardinal Captain Terry Moore was the guy to direct the younger players in when to go home. He was once asked what he did when they didn't want to go home. He said he would get Walker Cooper to tell them.
I always thought it was a great story.

There ya go. You got to the edge. If forced to pick, I’d go Winn or Scott as young emerging leaders. Ironically the kevel of leadership will likely depend on the level of performance.OldRed wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026 07:47 amOn this 2026 team, no one. One year, 4mm for Goldschmidt. With a 110% luxury tax 8.4mm.

He would have been a great bat coming off the bench, a proven player who would have added leadership. He was hired as a defensive replacement. Yanks have deeper lineup.
Re: Goldschmidt
The guy is near the end of his career…
He may have one more chance to win…..and as a New York Yankee
why in the world would he go to Stl?

Re: Goldschmidt
Considering how much money Goldschmidt has already made, why would he have even chosen St. Louis at this point in his career for even $6 or $8 million vs. the Yankees and a chance to make the WS for $4 million?
Re: Goldschmidt
Goldy seams like a good enough guy but he was most definitely NOT a leadermattmitchl44 wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026 14:46 pm Considering how much money Goldschmidt has already made, why would he have even chosen St. Louis at this point in his career for even $6 or $8 million vs. the Yankees and a chance to make the WS for $4 million?

Whaaaaaaaatt?RamFan08NY wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026 15:22 pmDidn't you hear? Every free agent out there is standing in line waiting for Stl to call.
You’re suggesting that every free agent is not sitting by the phone, desperately hoping, praying the cards call?
Re: Goldschmidt
Every single thing I've read about Arenado is that he works his rear off...like every player says he's the first one there hitting...taking ground balls etc...they said he eats and sleeps baseball...so he's definitely a lead by example guy ...and not a get in your face type guysikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026 07:20 amI think Molina was much more vocal. If you want a leadership comparison to goldy, try arenado. Same boat.OldRed wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026 07:18 amMolina was a perfect example of leadership. He also was a quiet guy in the dugout.sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026 07:16 amLeading by example is indeed a leadership trait. As is enforcing the standard. I think there are 12 of them in the military world.

but weren't people saying 2 years ago that there was no leadership from PG/NA?sikeston bulldog2 wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026 06:58 amI thought he was the silent type, not a robust leader type.OldRed wrote: ↑07 Feb 2026 06:56 amThis rebuild is totally garbage.
