They officially have the lowest payroll--If you subtract the money they pay players on other teams to play.
A collection of prospects.
Mattmitch says this is the only avenue to success.
We shall see.
But currently and on paper this looks like a team that finishes in the bottom 5.
I guess we might have a good shot at the #1 draft pick.
It's crazy how far they fell after having a supposed model franchise.
Who the hell will order the baseball package to watch this [shirt]?
Reminds me of the A's that left Oakland.
There's more to it. No team does this unless they're tanking. Is the prospect of the CBA affecting this? Maybe. One thing is for sure, their plan is to not be competitive at all. No team constructs a roster this way unless they're tanking. It's a shameful future for the once proud Cardinals. Looks like the rest of the Central will beat the Cards like a drum.
The funny part is that Bloom said the Cards would be competitive in 2026!!!
Gaslighting SOB
They couldn't compete with the best teams in AAA Milb.
Who's gonna watch this garbola is what I'd like to know.
“We’re not going to concede anything,” Bloom said. “We should never come in with any goal other than to win, but we’re going to be making moves that are more aligned with that long-term. We’re not going to do that at the expense of that bigger goal we have. But the mindset should always be to win. If you let that standard slip, that’s not a light switch you can just flip.”
[fork]ing perfect response Jay.
Hilarious.
I love that chick, she's soooo funny.

It's actually well below $68. It's closer to $51.
You sure?
Have to add the arbitration kids?
Not sure what they'll make but I guesstimated.
Yep have all the salaries except the exact amount for Pozo, but that can't be much more than 800K.

Nobody. The fans are going to stay away in droves. We used to laugh about the empty seats in Cincy and Pittsburgh. Now we get to experience it firsthand. Bloom was brought here to do this. This was the plan all along. Gut the team of all players making any money. Bloom was brought to Boston to reduce payroll. He existed on low payroll in Tampa. This is the new Cardinal Way. For the best fans in baseball.
I mean really, how hard is it to do what Bloom has done?
Pay $50M for our best players to play elsewhere?
And this Donovan trade wasn't a humdinger either.
I'd give Bloom a D- for this off season. Maybe an F

Wow.
That's much less than Miami pays even.
I think they're at $69 or so.
Crazy times bro.

Yeah, but the koo-aid drinkers aren't pleased with those of us calling out the disaster of a plan. They just know that after 3-5 years the Cards will be on top of the heap. They live in a fantasy and we're expected to join them. No thanks to that [nonsense].

This won't be any 2-3 year fix.
This is bare bones at this point.
Gonna be a decade.

The only way the Cardinals can consistently compete is by delivering a lot of young talent year after year after year.
They need the right "raw material" - prospects - for their player development system to develop that young talent.
Converting Gray, Contreras, Arenado, Donovan, etc. into more of the right "raw material" was an absolutely necessary step given where they were at as of the end of last year.
I’m surprised at how quickly forget how awful the cards have been. They weren’t magically going to get better keeping the same roster and going for internal improvement.
It is ok for fans to post distaste for the deconstruction of this franchise. It is not a good look.
Being consistently told it is the only way to return to relevance is [nonsense].
This is parity at work. The Cards Yankees and Braves can’t be the winners every year. They have to pull back and let other clubs win some too or MLB fails.
An option when when pulling back is to sort of contend. That is what Mo did. Not doing enough to push the club over the top but be entertaining.
Another path forward is to bury yourself for those “pull back seasons” and do a rebuild. That is what Bloom is doing.
It would be a great time for Billy to sell! You did a great job. Your son is not up to this job. Please sell the club! It’s time.

If we only had an owner that would go out of his comfort zone, then we could have avoided this.
This owner's pursuit is that of mammon.
He's a disgrace.
Too bad we're stuck with him.

So, I made a mistake somehow and not sure why.
I cannot believe we're this low.
incredible.

Maybe back in 2021 or 2022, but not now.
Now they need to land the plane and concentrate on fixing it rather than trying to build it while flying.

Here's another weird fact. If you look at all the teams highest paid player we have the lowest salary of all except Washington. May at $12 million is only higher than Wahsington's Trevor Williams who will make $7 million as the highest paid player on a team. Although if you count they are still paying Strasburg an ungodly amount on his contract then we have the lowest.
