Bleak Performance: A collection of prospects with the lowest payroll in baseball at $68M
They officially have the lowest payroll--If you subtract the money they pay players on other teams to play.
A collection of prospects.
Mattmitch says this is the only avenue to success.
We shall see.
But currently and on paper this looks like a team that finishes in the bottom 5.
I guess we might have a good shot at the #1 draft pick.
It's crazy how far they fell after having a supposed model franchise.
Who the hell will order the baseball package to watch this [shirt]?
Reminds me of the A's that left Oakland.
A collection of prospects.

I al says found that movie interesting. Was it good? Sure. But at no point did they ever mention guys like Mulder, Hudson, Zito, Tejada, and Chavez. They even made it a point to exclude any evidence of them in any of the flashback moments of games.
They had to make it look like it was a bunch of cheap scabs out there that just banded together, when the reality was that team was still pretty (bleep) talented

First mover advantage. The advantage disappears when others learn how to do it as well.alw80 wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 06:51 amThey were actually pretty good at the time of moneyball.govman wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 06:45 amWhat's interesting to me is how people embraced Moneyball on a consistently losing squad A'sBully4you wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 06:24 am They officially have the lowest payroll--If you subtract the money they pay players on other teams to play.

There's more to it. No team does this unless they're tanking. Is the prospect of the CBA affecting this? Maybe. One thing is for sure, their plan is to not be competitive at all. No team constructs a roster this way unless they're tanking. It's a shameful future for the once proud Cardinals. Looks like the rest of the Central will beat the Cards like a drum.Bully4you wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 06:24 am They officially have the lowest payroll--If you subtract the money they pay players on other teams to play.

The funny part is that Bloom said the Cards would be competitive in 2026!!!CCard wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 07:46 amThere's more to it. No team does this unless they're tanking. I'm just here for the conversation.
Don't care if they tank, stank or are great.
Meaningless to me.
I just write what I think of the situation.
That's all.

It's actually well below $68. It's closer to $51.Bully4you wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 06:24 am They officially have the lowest payroll--If you subtract the money they pay players on other teams to play.

“We’re not going to concede anything,” Bloom said. “We should never come in with any goal other than to win, but we’re going to be making moves that are more aligned with that long-term. We’re not going to do that at the expense of that bigger goal we have. But the mindset should always be to win. If you let that standard slip, that’s not a light switch you can just flip.”

Nobody. The fans are going to stay away in droves. We used to laugh about the empty seats in Cincy and Pittsburgh. Now we get to experience it firsthand. Bloom was brought here to do this. This was the plan all along. Gut the team of all players making any money. Bloom was brought to Boston to reduce payroll. He existed on low payroll in Tampa. This is the new Cardinal Way. For the best fans in baseball.Bully4you wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 07:49 amThe funny part is that Bloom said the Cards would be competitive in 2026!!!CCard wrote: ↑03 Feb 2026 07:46 amThere's more to it.
