IIRC running the numbers, if you had a $250 million salary cap and a $125 million salary floor, assuming the middle payroll teams between the cap and floor didn't change their spending, you'd have more money overall going to player salaries and those teams like Miami, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Tampa Bay, etc. who have to raise their spending would be doing it by putting more money toward a bunch of journeyman/average players.

So other teams will have to pay more money on talent that really doesn’t deserve it, they are just trying to make the minimum. It isn’t going to work that way. It doesn’t work that way. There are plenty of stars to go around.mattmitchl44 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2026 12:31 pmNot enough stars to go around and they'll still be getting better offers from the teams pushing the ceiling rather than the teams at the floor.Cardinals1964 wrote: ↑27 Jan 2026 11:57 amlol OR they would offer more money to stars and pay younger players less. able to keep their stars.
What it would do is decrease the chairs at any single table, The stars are finite is true but
the list of those stars does change.
It could be better for the game. However, they could do it without any caps and in a free
market IF they would adjust rules already agreed to and eliminated some loopholes.
Odds of it happening IMO, low.
Tim Dierkes has a good take on it at MLBTR.

If you’re from St. Louis just remember the evil Kroenke and the Rams theft. The billionaire owners including Jerry Jones lied and manipulated our city into committing to a new stadium while all the while they were leaving illegally. They are pond scum. Never enough. Kroenke is now the largest land owner in the U. S. He will never have enough.

From afar who else gets a team to LA sooner after 26 years
with deep enough pockets to build their own stadium.
It was a perfect storm when Khan didn't get the Rams

Edit. Don’t even answer that. There’s no point. I don’t no why MLBPA isn’t beating down the doors for a salary cap. It’s so much beneficial to them. They’d really be screwing the owners.

Hell, they won't even pay their regular company employee's decent wages and that's pocket change compared to baseball players. Guy's like Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg, Ellison etc etc made their billions by abusing the system. That they won't spring for top talent and appropriate wages or salaries is built into the system. They don't consider it being a flaw to capitalism they consider it to be a feature.Youboughtit wrote: ↑22 Jan 2026 19:00 pm Professional sports are a hobby for them. All of the sudden every one of them wants to be the “smartest guy in the room”. Until that changes the fans pay the freight. MLB has an ownership problem except a few at the top.
Loosing $100m per season on a hobby that value increases $200m should not be a problem

It's well known of his penchant for H1b visas to import cheap technical help. Also, how many jobs you see advertised 60k a year or some other ridiculous number that they never really pay. Also, It's well known that Amazon, Walmart and many other corporations don't pay enough to keep their employees of of assistance. I'm sure Tesla's hiring with all the money they just game Musk and the downturn in their (bleep) product. But really, this is about the billionaires running baseball and Dewitt's attempt to cheap out. What about that?Goldfan wrote: ↑28 Jan 2026 08:29 amTSLACCard wrote: ↑28 Jan 2026 07:53 amHell, they won't even pay their regular company employee's decent wages and that's pocket change compared to baseball players. After a lot of time being around, I think that if anyone is getting more than

getting it. Entertainment is probably the exception.
