We’re closing in on Lehtera value for Buch. One of the dumbest contracts in Blues history.
Kyrou I think still holds value in the eyes of GM’s around the league. Whether he’s worth it or not.

Interesting priorities. I don't know why but I have always thought that the focus of the team should be on its direction and its fans, not so much upon what the player's union thinks of things. I am probably wrong though, honestly I don't pay much attention to the impact that the players union has on the day to day decisions of personnel on the team outside of work stoppages during contract negotiations.Ziggy3 wrote: ↑21 Jan 2026 08:52 amYes, by all means, do this if you want to ruin the organization's reputation and become the #1 enemy of the Player's UnionMandatoryDenial wrote: ↑21 Jan 2026 07:17 amI keep saying this and I really do think this is both realistic and the best option. Send Pavel Buchnevich to the waiver wire. If someone takes him, great. More likely I think is that no one takes him, then assign him immediately to the Everblades, yep the ECHL. The why is very simple, your making an example of him. You are still paying him but you do get 1 million in cap relief. Make it clear to Pavel if his game returns he may get an opportunity to show what he can to do in the AHL and if he performs there the NHL. People howl about Kryou, but Kryou as bad as he has played is not the albatross that Buchnevich has been. If Pavel refuses the assignment terminate the contract immediately. If he accepts it then let him play out the contract you signed him for and see where the chips fall. This also opens a spot for a young guy and PLAY A YOUNG GUY. Don't replace him with an aging washed up project veteran reclamation project.StLouis-4Life2 wrote: ↑20 Jan 2026 20:52 pm Buchenvich and Kyrou?
Buchenvich I'm guessing eating half of his salary and a second rounder for a late first rounder and a salary dump expiring contract. Kyrou on the other hand I'm thinking we have to go the other way and offer the same late 1st round pick, and a third for a top 20 player...or maybe Thomas and Kyrou for Keller and a first or do you just do Thomas and a first for Austin Matthews ? In reality it probably better to bring back Reeves and let him beat the (bleep) out of these guys in practice until they start putting in some effort? I truly hope this team is throwing games for a low draft pick because if they are not it's going to be a long 3-4 years. You almost have to be a masochist to keep watching them![]()

Sorry Steve, I am not saying you send Buch to the ECHL as a punishment, to clarify I am saying you make an example of him. Your probably right almost no chance of happening but I have a feeling there would be a lot less coasting if you made it clear you were willing to do this.

Simply putting guys who arent playing with enough intensity in the pressbox will suffice. Seems like Logan Mailloux is the only guy held to any real standardMandatoryDenial wrote: ↑21 Jan 2026 12:40 pmSorry Steve, I am not saying you send Buch to the ECHL as a punishment, to clarify I am saying you make an example of him. Harry the reason I suggested demoting him is for the 1 million cap savings. I have absolutely no objections to burying him in the press box either.Harry S Deals wrote: ↑21 Jan 2026 12:42 pm Simply putting guys who arent playing with enough intensity in the pressbox will suffice. The player's union is made up of the players. It's kind of important that they want to play for your team.MandatoryDenial wrote: ↑21 Jan 2026 12:38 pmInteresting priorities. Re: What's the sweetener to get rid of...
Monty lost me a bit when i make time and sit and watch Jordan Kyrou, who is gifted with All World ability, literally skate around aimlessly and do nothing. No pressing on pucks, no fore check, cant shoot on net. But there is no punishment. Maybe hes dinged up who the hell knows. But i see Mailloux make a bad pass in his 35th NHL game ever and he sits for a couple. Hmmm. At least with Buch he does play hard, he can check, he PKs hes okay to decent in his own end he has just lost any semblance of offenseMandatoryDenial wrote: ↑21 Jan 2026 12:44 pmHarry the reason I suggested demoting him is for the 1 million cap savings. Matt Tkachuk embodies a major thing this organization lacks and Army didn’t take his best shot to acquire him.

Watching him get absolutely destroyed in his first game back me happy.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑21 Jan 2026 13:13 pmMatt Tkachuk embodies a major thing this organization lacks and Army didn’t take his best shot to acquire him.

Re: What's the sweetener to get rid of...
My concern with Buchnevich is the offensive downslide. He still does a lot of things that need doing but at times he gets frustrated and loses focus. He may wind up an overpaid 3rd liner.
Then again, with a more productive crew around him he might relax and show better.
Kyrou is an enigma. They need his talent, which can be gamebreaking, but he just does too many stupid things. Like repeatedly trying to dangle the puck through the entire Oilers team. Again, if the others around him are more productive it lessens the pressure he might feel to go it alone. He has had one really good season and a couple where you can maybe overlook some of his downside. Eventually some kid makes him expendable.

I dunno. Thinking the gap between what we know, or think we know, and what Army actually did or didn't do is not small.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑21 Jan 2026 13:13 pmMatt Tkachuk embodies a major thing this organization lacks and Army didn’t take his best shot to acquire him.

Unless Jeremy Rutherford's reporting is incorrect, we know the offer for Tkachuk. If we only go on what we know for an absolute 100% fact, then discussions like what happen on this board would be pretty dull. It has been reported by a very credible Blues reporter that Kyrou was not offered for MT so I think it is OK to assume at least that is correct.steve li wrote: ↑21 Jan 2026 14:17 pmI dunno. There has been discussion here since basically Kyrou came into the league about whether he was a guy to have in your core. So it isn't like this is revisionist history. Many preferred he be moved than signed long term. Right now - now that we know the outcome of signing him - it appears that moving him when his value was highest was the better call.
Unless you want to claim that no team would have been interested in him several years ago, I think it is fair to assume Army would have had many options if he choose to move him. And we essentially know he was not part of the Blues offer in one of the highest profile NHL trades in the last decade. His value is now far far lower than it was. That is what I mean when I say he was asleep at the wheel. He held him while his value eroded.

Interesting point, here I thought they played for money. That was the primary incentive. I confess you may be right that the Union has the ability to make it so no one wants to play for the buckets of cash signed off by stillman. I just don't agree with this take at all. I think that fostering a winning culture and paying people will ultimately overcome the one time you made an example out of a player who decided not to play up to his ability. Again I don't claim to be a psychologist or a person with the expertise in unions so I may be wrong here.
