I think he was saying thomas and panarin on the same lineDawgDad wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026 10:13 amYou would trade THOMAS for PANARIN? Five years ago, sure. We can liberate him from the Bread Man title by bringing him home to what we all know truly as Breadco. The St. Louis Bread Company. NOT the lie he's been told about that other company branding...
I didn't read the letter, but Panarin-Thomas would really be fantastic, no matter how old he is. Changes the PP completely. Try to extend him for several seasons.
I might take a flyer on Laffy, but that is a heck of a contract to bet on (though still tradeable). I suppose I could see it happening, perhaps rightfully so, way more than I see Panarin being added. But man, a guy like him is what this team needs. A True bonafide playmaking stud. Needs no other assistance. Makes everyone around him better. Threat every time he's on the ice that other teams have to key on, but finds people wide open...

Nice idea if we were one piece away. Alas, we’re not close.

Kyrou for Lafreniere is certainly an interesting trade.
Numbers and term work.
2 guys that have skill and perhaps could really benefit from change in scenery.
Risk is both teams will be stuck with those players for most of the term, so a team would feel a Need for some guaranteed success.
I don’t see either player regressing from where they are, but it can happen.

Re: Rangers not resigning Panarin; Laferriere on the table
I would chance it for a few reasons. First and foremost, I don't believe in Kyrou and don't think he has a ton of value. Yes, this season is an outlier for him, but his play is too soft for me on a team that wants another cup. Second, Laffy is still only 24, has good size, skating and puck skills. He was an absolute beast in the playoffs at age 22, when he had 14 points in 16 games, including 8 goals. He was the one of the Rangers best players that playoff season. I want guys that step up in big moments. Now, the question is whether his production would warrant the $7.5 million contract. I think he would be a consistent 50-60 point guy with us after a change of scenery. He had 57 points 2 years ago with 28 goals. He dropped to 45 points and 17 goals last year and is on a similar pace this year on a bad Rangers team.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026 09:54 amNah im good on that. Im not trading kyrou for someone that has yet to put up 60pts and makes 500k less. He MAY play better here, but why would you chance that?TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026 08:57 amI think he would be a really good player for this team, but I fear the price tag would be outrageous, even though he hasn't lived up to his #1 overall pick potential. I'd swap Kyrou in a heartbeat for him, but guessing we would have to add in that deal. Not sure his real value, with his best season being right around 60 points IIRC. Either way, I think he'd be a good fit depending on what it would take to acquire him.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026 08:44 am
Its hard to believe laderriere was a #1 pick. Hes still only 24 but jeeze.
All that to say I like the player better than Kyrou and he's younger. I think in the long run he's a guy who steps up when it matters. Just my opinion though. I totally understand your points. Would be a tough pill to swallow if Kyrou gets back to his normal output and Laffy stays a 45 point a year guy.

Re: Rangers not resigning Panarin; Laferriere on the table
Another issue with a Kyrou-Laffy swap is that Laffy is a left-shooting LW…which we have a bunch of on the team currently and in our pipeline. Carbs is the only righty RW in our system with top-9 potential, so moving Kyrou for another LW is not helpful IMO…even if Laffy’s play style is a better fit.

Not wanting to overvalue our players but I don't really want either Rangers player unless more is coming back. As much as I want to see changes to the core JK is a better player than AL, with a higher scoring potential. I'll keep him for the extra cap hit at this point. Add to that the left vs right shot and it makes no sense to trade for AL at all. The bread man is staying in the east or going to Vegas or Colorado as a rental. The Blues are not going to get involved in that bidding war.

Rags don’t make great trading partners for the Blues
Re: Rangers not resigning Panarin; Laferriere on the table
Lafferriere is on the wrong team. His game doesn't mesh good with the Rangers. It would with the Blues.rangergiff wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026 11:55 am Not wanting to overvalue our players but I don't really want either Rangers player unless more is coming back. But I don't know what they would be looking for. As a Blues fan. I have the faintest ideal what a retool means. I also wouldn't be willing to give it ahat they would probably want.
While I don't want to lose Kyrou.
I've been around long enough to know that our announcers always bash/blame to who management tells them to. And I'm tried of them (bleep) and blaming Kyrou. So I know a trade would be best for him. Again [fork] army for his [shirt]ty ways.
Good on the Rangers. 1 more win then us, same amount of points. But not hoping to win 2-1 games against teams not looking to get hurt to appease a few bandwagoners. Good on the fans. For not accepting making the playoffs.

That's one time getting bent over in the draft helped the Wings as they took Raymond.Younghopp1991 wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026 08:44 amIts hard to believe laderriere was a #1 pick. Montreal and Detroit could be scary tho with a good acquisition
Actually all of the posts with the exception of theograce's have been good on this thread.
Further thought: I would pass on Panarin's age. But Laferriere could be a good change of scenery...or he could be another Jonathan Drouin?
Re: Rangers not resigning Panarin; Laferriere on the table
Ive never really noticed our broadcasters bashing players that management tells them to.
What I do notice is they take every opportunity they can to critique mistakes by our young players, usually calling it a teachable moment.
If a veteran like Schenn or Buchy make the same mistake, they basically ignore it.
Drives me crazy...

Yes a team would have to add in a Kyrou-Lafreniere deal and it would be the Rangers.TruBlueFan_1970 wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026 08:57 amI think he would be a really good player for this team, but I fear the price tag would be outrageous, even though he hasn't lived up to his #1 overall pick potential. Kyrou has the far better track record and is only making 500k more. At this point Lafreniere draft position is moot as he is in his third contract and not living up to his draft status.
In back to back seasons the Rangers took Kappo Kakko #2 overall and Lafreniere #1 overall. So there's your tank picks everyone. Guaranteed bonafide can't miss TOP5.
Both of them could be out of their organization that drafted them in less than 6 seasons.
The #2 overall high point season so far is 40 points. The #1 overall high point season 45. By their age Kyrou already had a 73 and 75 point season.
You can mull that over amongst yourselves.

Re: Rangers not resigning Panarin; Laferriere on the table
TJB, I always respect your opinion and understand the stats: but the eye test for Kyrou right now is not good. If this was a no checking league, I love the guy's skating and stickwork. However, we know the reality. They either need to cut the kid loose and let him fly and not worry about his lack of a two way game or they need to trade him to someone who doesn't care about his two way game. I think he could become an adequate defensive player if he could figure out how to stay engaged and use his speed and stick. We know he isn't going to hit anyone, so cut him loose and let him fly or move his (bleep) for a change of scenery guy. Shootout move is why you love the guy, but man he can disappear in a game.

Re: Rangers not resigning Panarin; Laferriere on the table
Yes this year has absolutely been rough for Kyrou, my point was more that here are two prime examples for the "getting a top 5 pick all but ensures a superstar" posters. I have done more than my fair share of critiquing Kyrou, in fact I believe he is now at what 11 or 12 games without a goal since his return? That's absolutely abysmal and should never happen with a guy like him.Lets_Clinch wrote: ↑17 Jan 2026 23:08 pm TJB, I always respect your opinion and understand the stats: but the eye test for Kyrou right now is not good. It depends as much, if not more, the years you get those picks and the development of those players.
However, we have done a far better job getting value and Kyrou has been a far better player than a #2 and a #1 overall.
