Re: Dreger stating Blues are willing to trade Thomas
I actually find both theograce and asogg as actually fairly knowledgeable.
Unfortunately, their good points get lost with all the drivel they constantly post that rarely contain any true objectivity. It's kind of a shame.
They both always get the last word with me for sure because I grow tired of the act quickly.

No way I'm trading Thomas for a draft pick. None.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 15:47 pm Unless it is a massive trade or a very very high draft pick coming back, I can't see any world where trading him makes sense. His contract is reasonable. He is still relatively young. He can play in most any situation. He isn't elite but is still the best player on this team.
If he's getting traded a rather significant package is coming back including NHL players.

This will sound slightly insane, but that would be the starting point. He is signed for 5 more seasons way below what a #1 center makes.Bluesfan1978 wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 15:49 pmI can’t see the Blues trading Thomas unless it’s for a package similar to what Hughes fetched.MiamiLaw wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 15:47 pm Unless it is a massive trade or a very very high draft pick coming back, I can't see any world where trading him makes sense. That kind of contract is going to cost another team a lot.

Exactly. And there are no 1 or even 2 on the market except for perhaps petersson who is making 11.2 aav for the same period. Carolina has to be interested if he is truly on the market. What about an old-fashioned blockbuster. Thomas and Faulk for svechnikov, kotkaniemi and chatfield? Not enough imo from carolina but trade fodder spitballinTheJackBurton wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 21:55 pmThis will sound slightly insane, but that would be the starting point. My mock trade including Thomas would be
to MTL Thomas
to STL Guhle, 1st, Kappenin
or 1st, Hage, Guhle
to MTL Thomas
to STL Guhle, 1st, Kappenin
or 1st, Hage, Guhle

Good post. Succinct points that are right on.BluesDom wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 15:45 pmWhy did you say "in this city??
Why did you say such a mess?
The Blues are a proud successful organization. We made the playoffs last year and this year is a bummer but its not a cluster f%k
Its not that bad.
The city--I love St. Louis. Its a great city. Many players love it here and stay here.
Thomas may be traded if its a great offer. Otherwise no need to trade him.
I'll answer your questions: It's because theograce has one forearm with muscles just like Popeye's while the other forearm looks like Olive"s.

That would be a starting point, but at this point kotkaniemi has been somewhat disappointing so yeah there's going to have to be an add.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 22:26 pmExactly. Re: Dreger stating Blues are willing to trade Thomas
While I'd like the potential, of any potential trade for Thomas. I don't know if turst Army to get the right prospects in return.
Blue chip, top prospect, top pick has to be the return and close to the value, imo. As Thomas at 8mil for all of a teams open window years is beyond great.
Trading Thomas also puts the team at a bigger risk of going through that endless rebuild. All the faith in the last few years first rd picks, including any youngest that might be coming back in a trade, doesn't make it real.

Yes. And agree with other posters that if you trade Thomas you have to be getting back his replacement (in current form) or future form. Kotkaniemi is just a placeholder center who evens out salary and a first round bust. I like the idea of Hage + , but that deal gets done if Montreal thinks they are going all in now and the next couple of seasons and the Blues are committing to a rebuild over the same time period.TheJackBurton wrote: ↑16 Jan 2026 09:04 amThat would be a starting point, but at this point kotkaniemi has been somewhat disappointing so yeah there's going to have to be an add.IsDurbanodoingtime wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 22:26 pmExactly. Will our direction of sellers change if they continue to win?
