I may be biased being from Calgary but... I've watched him play for a long time (get all the Toiler games here) and what I've noticed from McJesus is that he does not elevate the other players on the team. For all the years he has played, only one player has had much success with him, Draisatl. To be honest other than the fact he has some other worldly skill, would you really want to play on the same team where you are not allowed/permitted to contribute other than being a 'don't be outscored upon' when on the ice... You will never be on the ice for a powerplay or in the last 2 minutes of the game if you're behind...
The benefit to having him would be an increase in jersey sales and people attending the games.

If he were guaranteed he'd likely play for free to win a Cup.Bacchk29 wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 11:21 amIs he going to take less money to go someplace to win a Cup? I doubt it. That’s what he would have to do.theograce wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 10:49 amHe wouldn’t. He wants to win more than life itself
He would definitely give a lot back for the right scenario to win a Cup....it's the only thing missing in his stellar career.
I don't like the proposal because i don't believe he's a player you have to have to that degree to win a Cup and also I'd rather have the solid balanced 4 line mentality to ice up a team.

How do they benefit? Their Cup window is now. Dvorsky and Carbonneau gives them depth and extends the window, but even adding Buch it just muddies their Cap situation and gives them fewer game breakers. You're not giving them anything they need.Bacchk29 wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 11:14 amThen you’re saying there’s no possible deal from McDavid from any team. If I'm Edmonton My reply would be something like "Alex (Steen), Army never wasted our time by offering us outlandish deals...please tell us this won't be the norm moving forward."
If you're serious, start with Parayko, add Binnington (hope they believe in a change of scenery), Dvorsky, Snuggerud, Carbonneau, our first, and take back enough contracts to make it work.
In other words, a deal the Blues would have to be stupid to make.

Don't know.. Not sure the makeup of who is attending in St Louis, ie % of full season ticket holders vs small pkgs/single game attendees.DawgDad wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 12:19 pmBlues attendance is an issue???bluecalgary wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 11:55 amBacchk29 wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 10:35 amWhy

I can say there is a marked increase in the number of Blues jerseys at the Flames games since they won the Cup and with Jake's family now coming to the games...

I would add Binner to my original deal, they still need goaltending. The money works AND I get picks and prospects from dealing Faulk and probably Schenn. I can also retain on Binner to make the money work.Army's Mom wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 12:27 pmHow do they benefit? Their Cup window is now. Kyrou Thomas Snuggerud Neighbors Stenberg Holloway. You don’t touch your D. That’s nobody?sdaltons wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 12:47 pmSo we will have McDavid and no one to play him with. You said you're moving Dvorsky, Carbonneau, Buchnevich, Schenn, Faulk, and Binnington. Hard to tell where you were drawing the line.Bacchk29 wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 12:54 pmKyrou Thomas Snuggerud Neighbors Stenberg Holloway. You don’t touch your D. But one thing is for sure. We'd be significantly worse than Edmonton is now and he hasn't been able to get them over the top.

Keep in mind that no one, in any sport, has ever traded the best player in the game and come out ahead.
For example....every team that traded Gretsky came out on the short end of the stick.
Edmonton got Jimmy Carson (who scored 100+ points the previous season, Martin Gelinas, 15 million AND 3 1st round picks.

The team that receives many players always wins that trade when one superstar is being traded. It's the Hershal Walker trade between the Cowboys and Vikings.

Re: I propose a deal
I would laugh at this proposal because it's 3 lottery tickets and a loser for the world's best player, but we got Gretzky for Patrice Tardif, Roman Vopat, Craig Johnson, and two draft picks (who turned out to be Peter Hogan and Matt Zultek). So who knows what happens with McDavid?
Re: I propose a deal
Like the Matthew Tkachuk trade?hockey jedi wrote: ↑15 Jan 2026 18:44 pm The team that receives many players always wins that trade when one superstar is being traded. It's the Hershal Walker trade between the Cowboys and Vikings.
Re: I propose a deal
We already tried that with Wayne Gretzky. And he had at least won a Cup, or four and we had even more better talent on that team than now. And I don't believe we gave up as much to get him. McDavid is an exceptional player no doubt, and unfortunately Keenan was abusive to Gretzky, so he chose to leave. So, it may be unfair to compare. But Gretzky still lives part of the year in St. Louis with quite a few other Canadian-born Hall Of Famers, so we can table that knock on the community issue. However, McDavid is prone to emotional and anger issues -- it's on videotape. Maybe he has grown out of it, maybe not. Will he be frustrated that a lot of promising young players to surround are no longer here? There have been some dam good players with him on the Oilers.
It could be great if he came here, or maybe not?
Let's move on to reality.

You're so right. No need to repeat mistakes made previously.
