I disagree. Jiricek has first pair written all over him. So far, at least.Zizzle1297 wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 17:09 pm Just think if both mailloux and Jiricek develop as project thats a solid 2nd and 3rd pair on RD. I've suspected his ceiling is an elite top-2 Dman but that he might average out as a top-4 guy.Tabasco Flowers wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 17:19 pmI disagree. Jiricek has first pair written all over him. Of course, I liked him over Buium in the draft, so my bias remains
Re: Jiricek
That would be amazing. And not out of need, but talent/intelligence. I need a new favorite player badly.Tabasco Flowers wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 17:19 pmI disagree. Tabasco- that is great to hear hopefully he continues his develop. I was super low on the pick at first but it is definitely looking better.Tabasco Flowers wrote: ↑02 Jan 2026 17:19 pmI disagree. Of course. The entire tournament has been on either NHL network or ESPN+. I haven’t missed one game! Looking forward to both games tomorrow.

Re: Jiricek
I’ll be at the Canada-Czechia game tomorrow. Should be another good tilt.
Thinking longer term though, I think the Blues are going to have issues integrating guys like Jiricek and Lindstein over the next year or two unless they change up the current D core. We already have 3 d-men on the Blues that if we’re being honest, are #7 caliber at best - Mailloux, Tucker and Kessel. We’re having to play 2 of those 3 each game and all 3 are getting caved pretty badly. We’re also trying to shelter them severely as evidenced by our top-4 getting some of the most 5 on 5 icetime in the league among d-men and our bottom 2 guys playing as little as possible to mitigate their suckage.
ATOI per game so far this season:
Broberg: 23:15
Faulk: 22:42
Parayko: 22:39
Fowler: 21:41
Tucker: 13:45
Mailloux: 13:24
Kessel: 11:59
A typical 3rd pairing guy is still going to play around 16-18 minutes/game. Ours are playing way less because they suck horribly and thus we are overworking our top-4.
Getting back to Jiricek (and Lindstein by extension) - we already have too many young, not good d-men. A team can truly only successfully shelter 1 d-man. The Blues are already trying to shelter 2 per game (and it’s not going well). This will make it hard to integrate youngsters like Jiricek and Lindstein in the next year as they will also need to be eased into the league at first.
This problem will only get worse if/when we trade Faulk away.

That’s exactly the problem we should be looking forward to. It’s just past time to turn the page on several guys.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑03 Jan 2026 14:05 pm

I’ll gladly take rhe youth infusion and all the negatives that go with it.

Re: Jiricek
I assume Jiricek will be in the AHL next year and Lindstein will be a call up. Mailloux needs to keep progressing the rest of this year and hopefully be a regular next year. Kessel and Tucker won’t be on this team in the next 1-2 years.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑03 Jan 2026 14:05 pm I’ll be at the Canada-Czechia game tomorrow. Should be another good tilt.

Re: Jiricek
Agree but I do not hold a fatalistic view. There is NO hurry to trade Faulk or Parayko for that matter. Faulk is a next season issue, if some team wants to buy him early they need to pay dearly for the privilege. Pay in young top talent.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑03 Jan 2026 14:05 pm I’ll be at the Canada-Czechia game tomorrow. Should be another good tilt.

Re: Jiricek
Agree with all of this. The Blues have been short an NHL caliber 3LD all season. They're very fortunate none of their top 4 have been hurt. Losing even one of them would be a disaster.STL fan in MN wrote: ↑03 Jan 2026 14:05 pm I’ll be at the Canada-Czechia game tomorrow. Should be another good tilt.

My plan would be to extend Broberg and keep Parayko, Faulk and Fowler until their contracts expire. If they get back in the playoff hunt, acquire a veteran 3LD for the rest of the season. I'd also bring up Lindstein to get him some NHL minutes with the hope he can be a top 6 player next year.
Mailloux has NHL talent but is totally erratic right now. I hope he can smooth out some very rough edges and can be more reliable next year. I am assuming Jiricek will be in the AHL for most of next year but will be the Faulk replacement after next year.
