Post by Harry S Deals »

If i were picking again in '08 in hindsight AP is not the 4th overall pick, he may have been the 5th or 6th best defenseman taken Karlsson, Carlson, Josi, Doughty would have to be considered ahead of AP. This is by no means a slight to AP who was a great two way defender but the point is again and again, picking in the Top5 in the NHL is a (bleep) shoot. Would you really consider Bogosian or Luke Schenn to be Top5 players? They may have been at 18 yrs old. Army needs to stick to the plan, jettison older expiring deals for picks and prospects and continue to let the good younger guys we have now percolate. There is no magic formula to winning a Cup other than really being the best checking team going in the playoffs at that moment

Why must I always need to trail behind and sweep up? :)

1) If you think that picking in the TOP5 is no guarantee of getting a GREAT player, you are going to hate the odds of picking after TOP10 of even finding a GOOD player.

2) Army has shown ZERO ability to staff the roster via the draft. Look at our team. Do you see much elite impact from the NHL draft? Nope. You see exceptionally little evidence of it--compared to other teams. This is especially true when you compare our team to teams like Colorado, Carolina, Minnesota and Edmonton. Some GMs may be able to find exceptional talent lower in the draft -- BUT ARMY IS NOT ONE OF THEM!!! Army picking at #15 or lower is as USELESS as (buzz) on a bore hog when it comes to staffing the team with Stanley Cup level talent.

3) Anyone that says that the Blues don't need a TOP5 pick because they won in 2019 is ignoring the fact that they did have a TOP5 pick on the roster in 2019, Alex Pietrangelo.

Using your bend the rules reasoning:

Robert Thomas averages more points per game than the top 2 picks in his draft class making him the equivalent of a top 5 pick in his draft class.. therefore the Blues have a top 5 pick

That's right as well as Schenn, Kyrou and Neighbours also both producing right there with the top of their draft class

Outside of the Avs what have the other 3 done with their great draft positions? That’s the point you always seem to miss. You need to understand 99% of fans want to win a championship. You are that 1% that prefers to cheer for the name on the back of the jersey. More power to you. You would have loved the 90s teams, but they don’t throw parades for the 1%. You would have been at the curb waving your pennant every June buddying up to the homeless guy collecting beer cans at your feet.

If we taught "necessary but not sufficient" better as a concept then we wouldn't be plagued by this whole character. "I never said necessary was sufficient!!" lol

anyway, that aside, I personally do not want Doug Armstrong choosing the players to replace the players he signed that aren't getting it done. I want draft picks, not the players he evaluates.

Doug Armstrong doesn't personally evaluate guys who are acquired there are pro and amateur staffs employed who do the scouting then the group makes the decisions

are you explaining to me how the boss isn't the boss? and the trades Armstrong might make this season in getting players back for Schenn, et al ... if they are for players, he is merely executing the desires of his underling Teams of Responsibles?

In last year's playoffs, every team had at least one TOP5 pick on their roster (that they selected and held as a core player). Florida and Edmonton each have 2 TOP5 picks on their roster.

Every NHL city understands the importance of TOP5 picks. It's only St Louis that is clueless about this--BECAUSE THEY HAVEN"T HAD ONE IN 20 YEARS.

Go root for a different team. This place would be much better without you

Florida has 5
Barkov - #2 (2013) Fla
Jones - #4 (2013) Nsh
Ekblad - #1 (2014) Fla
Reinhart - #2 (2014) Buf
Bennett - #4 (2014) Cgy

Tkachuk - #6 (2016) Cgy

That strategy of two Top 5’s didn’t seem to work out too well for Buffalo, Calgary, nor Nashville, did it?

It’s a subtle dance, if you have top 6 picks you stink. If you have top 7 you’re straight garbage. But top 5? It’s on like a prawn that yawns at dawn.
