Is Bloom holding out for a slugger-type in a Donovan deal?
Hope so. Either Eldridge from the Giants or Montes from the Mariners. And I hope it includes a high level starting pitching prospect that has a chance to advance quickly. If Bloom doesn't get his trade return demand. It's not the end of the world to keep Donovan. Actually, trading Contreras and Nootbaar and keeping Donovan might be preferable. Especially, if Arenado is moved. Then maybe, DeWitt can save up some money to re-sign Donovan.

I don't know how many times this needs to be explained. Donovan is not going to return an ML ready slugger and a top shelf pitching prospect.Shady wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025 16:14 pm Hope so. Donny will return a younger cheaper version of himself or lesser talent player. If you haven’t noticed the real mission is to drop payroll and HOPE some of these returning players don’t embarrass BDW/Bloom too much
Re: Is Bloom holding out for a slugger-type in a Donovan deal?
Why dump salary on an outstanding, fairly young player like Donovan? Unless the return is extravagant. I like the thought of having really fine hitters like Donovan, Herrera, Burleson and, hopefully, Wetherholt in the lineup, together, for a few seasons.

I wish they would get off the trade Donovan kick. Why trade him for prospects when he has 2 years left and is a young cost controlled team leader? They should build around him, Herrera and Burleson
Re: Is Bloom holding out for a slugger-type in a Donovan deal?
Yep. The good news is they don't have to trade Donovan, at all, unless the Cardinals get the moon for him. I'm hoping Bloom sees it that way.

Goldfan is wrong.
They’re not trying to dump salary. They are trying to acquire prospects.

What you, as well as a few others, seem to not understand is that Donovan is not an outstanding player. He's the second best player on a really poor team. He's nothing more than a missing piece on a good team. We aren't going to get a 50 btv player in exchange for a mid 30 btv player.

Don’t know what they are shooting for but whatever they get it better be MLB ready or Bloom blew it.

+1 he’s definitely not a player you build around if he’s the guy you build your team around you will have a bad team. He’s the type of complimentary player you pick up when you have a good team already2ninr wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025 17:43 pmWhat you, as well as a few others, seem to not understand is that Donovan is not an outstanding player. Donovan is a really good, versatile MLB player. Don't you wish Gorman and Walker would turn out as good as he is? Having the hitting combo of Donovan, Herrera, Burleson and, very likely, Wetherholt is something, indeed, to build around.Ozziesfan41 wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025 17:47 pm+1 he’s definitely not a player you build around if he’s the guy you build your team around you will have a bad team. That sums it up. Donovan is an above average player. He was an All Star because the Cards had to have one and Gray faltered before selection. Just because guys like him are among the best Cardinals does not make them stars. The Cardinals have no outstanding players. Maybe Winn, Wetherholt, and Herrera reach that level but no one is there yet.2ninr wrote: ↑19 Dec 2025 17:43 pmWhat you, as well as a few others, seem to not understand is that Donovan is not an outstanding player. Or is hoping for 3 WAR just a bridge too far for “the next Joey Votto?”
