Re: What was your first ballpark experience
Mine was in the early 1970's I think, Joe Torre was playing 3rd base at the time. My mother and a friend of her's took me to two games. We had dinner before one of the games in that revolving restaurant that was at the top of the Stouffer's Hotel. That was pretty cool for a young kid. Anyway, during one of the afternoons we went to the gift shop at the stadium. It was way smaller than what they have at Busch III, it was about the size of a hotel lobby gift shop. Jose Cruz, Luis Melendez and Ken Reitz were hanging out in there. Not sure what they were doing!

It was in the early seventies. My posse and I headed to STL in an old Chrysler convertible top down. 150 miles. Doubleheader. Cards get killed first game. We leave. Need to indulge. Party time. Big city.
So we go into the bad part of town unintentionally. Got lost. For hours. That ended the big city excursion.

Ha. You. Are. A. Fraud. The ONLY time Gibby faced Jenkins in Wrigley was Opening Day 1971. All other 8 times they faced each other were not in Wrigley.Melville wrote: ↑17 Dec 2025 09:00 amNever about me.ClassicO wrote: ↑17 Dec 2025 08:13 amHow was that co-ed softball game when you were 45 years old? Because we all know from your lack of acumen about anything that requires someone to have "played the game," you never did.
And as usual, you lie about the first MLB game. Gibby only faced Jenkins once in Wrigley Field, and it was a school day game.
And it grieves me when others needlessly and foolishly attempt to make it so.
But, such is the frailty of human character.
For my part, I am only and always about the game.
In this case, a Sunday afternoon day game at Wrigley Field in the summer of 1969 - the game that made me a fan of the Cardinals and the beginning of my lifelong affection for the game of baseball itself.
I repeat. You make stuff up more than Shady. And that's saying something.

Had my first and last soft pretzel more importantly Cards walked off Braves with bases loaded walk.
Can someone use that data to determine the year?
