That will get the fan base excited...gets me excited

Drop Nado to anyone who's willing part with some IFA pool money, pay 1/3 of his remaining contract...maybe we can get an extreme lottery ticket from Low A. The move has always been about freeing up 3B, not getting Top Prospects for Nado. You have to live with the return. We're getting Luna anyways, #8 IFA, so why not get some more dollars for another Top 10 splash?
And that opens up so many doors/windows.

VS2 can be moved for...pitching maybe? I don't see a future in the starting lineup for VS2, unless he can somehow stop the Grounders to 2B/1B and soft lineouts/pop outs to the left side.

Contreras can be moved for more RH batters, preferably with power in the Minors...or starting RHP in the mid minors....both are sore needs.

Getting that young core now could be a steal. Instead of trading them all over the next 2 or so seasons. I don't see VS2, Burleson, and Contreras figuring into future when we're ready to win. Contreras' contract will be done, and Burleson/VS2's output won't match their Arb years/costs. Do it now, set up the Core.
As usual, you underestimate Burleson. He's going to continue to make progress. IMO.
Burleson can hit...a bit for average, a bit for OBP. He has some power. I like him, I'm not dogging him, but he is extremely tradeable if you can get a younger player with more tools.
Eventually, the issue, like with Donovan, may be affording Burleson. He's going to be a terrific MLB hitter for average and some power. And they are rather hard to find. Be careful trading him for unknown MLB potential.

and Burleson's value will likely never be higher than right now. He's going into Arb 1 this season, following his 2 WAR effort. The value will trickle down each year.

He's equal to Benge in Value right now...and Benge fills a big NEED in the OF. You gotta make that move.

He's a "fine" MLB hitter on a not very good club. He's bad defensively, slower than a slug and really doesn't have much power. He's just tradeable is all I'm saying

I disagree. He would be fine at 1B. And I see more power coming from Burly. I would really like to get Eldridge. Trade Contreras. Burly would be fine in LF.

You nailed it, Shady. Totally agree. 2 WAR, entirely one-dimensional, bat-only defensive liabilities are very hard to find. Extremely rare.

Bryce Eldridge 1B/DH
Drafted by the San Francisco Giants in the 1st round (16th) of the 2023 MLB June Amateur Draft
6'7" 240lb
Speed 45/30
Field 30/40

Trying to learn to play 1B in 2024-2025. Hoping to reduce fielding miscues and failed catches... making progress.

The hitting bar is high for him to be an average MLB player. It is very high for him to be an all star.

Kind of like Contreras or Burleson or Herrera (if he can't play as a catcher)

If he's an elite bat, sign me up. Let's trade Contreras and Burleson. Otherwise, pass.

If SF proves to be willing to trade him for 2 years of Donovan, what does that tell you about the risks they see in Eldridge's game?

If the Cardinals did get Eldridge. It might be more prudent to trade Contreras and have Wetherholt, Eldridge, Winn, Herrera and Burleson as core players. Burleson is a lot more of an MLB sure thing than Benage is.
I agree, Burleson is “a lot more of an MLB sure thing” than a player who doesn’t exist.

And by your definition, Contreras is “more of an MLB sure thing” than Burleson, yet that doesn’t seem to stop you from trying to get rid of Contreras by any means possible to clear the way for Burleson.
I'm interested in Benage a trois

If that's the same thing as a menage a trois

The Giants aren't looking 3 years down the road. They are looking to do damage the next 2 years. I don't think that dog hunts.

Posey has proven himself to be highly analytical and strategic.
Extremely calculating.
He would not we willing to give up 6 years of Eldridge if he didn't have risk concerns.

Yea, it's a dumb argument that you could make for virtually any trade. "If they thought this player was any good, they wouldn't have traded him." In this case, like the Giants have done anything impressive the last few years. But if the Giants, or most any other team, are looking to win now, and there is a player that they value, there is a good chance that they will do what they have to do. This is one of the most basic things ever. We see it year after year.

Now, I'm not saying that in this specific instance that the Giants value Donovan that highly, or what they really think of Eldridge. I have no idea. But saying that they wouldn't trade Eldridge unless they had serious risk concerns is dumb. And what has Buster Posey done that is so successful? Won one more game than they did the year before he got promoted? 81-81?? Wow!!

Specious post - lacking either knowledge or honesty.
This isn't an "argument that you could make for any trade".
In fact, it is exactly the opposite.
Very rare for any team to give up its #1 rated prospect with 6 years of control in a 1:1 swap for 2 years of a player who has never hit 15 HR, never scored 70 runs, and only once in 4 years has driven in more than 50.
Donovan is a really good multi-position player, but not a star.
Obviously, the Giants would never entertain such a notion if they did not see significant risk in Eldridge.
Not a criticism of either player in any way - just an unbiased, fully accurate analysis of the facts.
Which, of course, is all I do.
I would add that we are about to learn something interesting about Bloom, in this, his first off-season at the helm.
One of Super Slo Mo's two greatest weaknesses was the fear and timidity which caused him to be nearly completely risk averse and routinely aim for mediocrity.
We shall see if Bloom is willing to place higher risk/higher reward bets.

There was an headline reported by Katie Woo that the Mariners and Giants are now "front-runners" for Brendan Donovan. A). Is that something you've been able to confirm in your reporting? and B). Is it possible that a deal with someone like JoJo Romero (and Donovan), net a package that includes Ryan Sloan (SEA) or Bryce Eldridge (SF)?

A) I am always reluctant to do this ... but what the heck ... here goes ... I reported last week (Tuesday) that the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners had joined the Royals as among the most persistent teams looking to trade for Donovan. That information appeared at StlToday on Tuesday and in Wednesday's newspaper. I reported on that as soon as I could confirm it, and the info has been there available to readers.
B) The Mariners have shown interest in Romero. The Seattle Times first reported that, and I've been able to confirm that and then pass that info along to readers. That would, yes, increase the return from the Mariners in this case. At this point, Eldridge has come up more as a possible and realistic trade target from the Giants than Sloan. Both would be a strong return, for sure. And at least in Eldridge's case, part of the reason the name is surfacing is because of the Marte trade talk, too.
DONE!

That would be quite a coup for C. Bloom if he pulls it off.
