I consider this a pretty depressing stat....and important one.....so why are they not the worst team in the league?

The Blues have lost 21 games this year. In 10 of those losses they have given up five or more goals. In 9 of those losses they have lost by one.

That says a number of things...when they are bad they are really bad and when "good" they can generate points and compete......and it also says it's the wild inconsistency of this team that is killing them.

Going forward is the glass half full or half empty? Can the team of last spring find themselves and put a string of solid games together without all the ying yang?

In the past ten games the Blues rank around 12th in league record of the 32 teams. Really critical they find a way to stay afloat through these injuries....and if they can manage that I choose half full and still expect these guys to come around to be a good and competitive hockey team.
I wonder how many of those 9 Losses they had a 2-Goal Lead, or just a Lead in the 3rd Period in general.

I’m still dumbfounded that after the beat the Blackhawks on Friday, they were ahead of the Jets in the Standings…

This league is all about the goaltending. We have two goalies that will win us games. There's was injured for half the season.
On Friday morning we were behind the jets in the standing. Friday night, ahead. Saturday night. Back below the jets.

What's crazy is the Jets have 3 more wins then the Blues and the Blies have 5 more loses then the Jets. Who also have a couple games in hand.
No doubt a Goalie can steal you games as well as mask deficiencies. They weren’t exactly running away from the League w/Hellebuyck between the pipes, but they were substantially better with him in net than the alternative.

Last year, the Jets are stacked, but are not rolling as deep as they were last year! They still have a strong physical presence from veterans who can produce in the Top 9 (Lowry, Niederreiter, & Namestnikov) and on D. However, their bangers have definitely aged a bit more, and they got even older by replacing Ehlers with Toews.

Not only is Toews’ not replacing Ehler’s in the Top 6, but his overall game doesn’t seem to mesh well with the team’s philosophy. To compensate, the Jets have those guys physical 3rd Line Bangers now up on the 2nd line as Cole Perfetti, and his production has plummeted.

Seriously, from Ehlers (+14) producing +60 points & Perfetti (+14) producing 50 points while both averaged under 16’ a night to Toews (-13) supplanting Ehler’s time while pacing for under 30 points and Perfetti (-11) pacing closer to 20 points is quite a departure

Well for the first 5 weeks or so it was mostly the goaltending as they had the worst numbers and somewhere around -20 in expected goals against when the 2nd last team had -7. Then our offense stopped scoring.

After that there are 2 big categories hurting the Blue. The 0-7 record with 3 on 3 and SO to go along with the league worst 5 on 6 AND 6 on 5 numbers. They’ve given up an extra 7 goals during gimmicks and they almost never score EN goals while the other team scores easily 1-2x every time. Throw in giving up goals when the other teams pulled their goalie.

Long story short, 5 on 5 the Blues have been trending in a very good direction for the past 5 weeks or so.

Up and down really. 4 or more goals in 4 of the past 7.

The Blues have to play like it’s a low scoring playoff game every game. It’s gross.

The Blues goal differential is pathetic, but even more concerning is they are either 30th, 31st or 32nd in goals scored AND goals against.
They are the only team without even ONE SINGLE 10 goal scorer on their roster. Our top scorer has 8 goals. We may only end up with one or two 20 goal scorers.
When you are basically last in the league in scoring and last in goals against, it's pretty abysmal. The Blues have to play a strong game in all 3 zones to even have a chance to win, or at least keep the score close.
They are easily the most fragile team in the league, mentally. They are equally inferior at holding a lead as they are when trying to rally from a deficit. Almost no lead feels safe and once they fall behind, you might as well change channels.
It is very disheartening and very difficult to watch..... They show no composure or confidence, and for a professional athlete, that has to be hard to swallow...
OK- Done ranting....LOL

Rant my friend , You’ll feel better.

(Wasn’t it only like two or three seasons ago we had about six or eight 20 goal score scorers ?)

I think our top 9 forwards all scored 20 or more goals & Faulk had around 14 or 15 on the back end. That was the 21-22 season. If Binnington doesn't get hurt, who knows what might have happened. But the Avs were loaded that year unfortunately
