Goal Differential
So the Blues have, by far, the worst goal differential in the entire league at -34 with the next closest team being the Nucks at -24.
I consider this a pretty depressing stat....and important one.....so why are they not the worst team in the league?
The Blues have lost 21 games this year. In 10 of those losses they have given up five or more goals. In 9 of those losses they have lost by one.
That says a number of things...when they are bad they are really bad and when "good" they can generate points and compete......and it also says it's the wild inconsistency of this team that is killing them.
Going forward is the glass half full or half empty? Can the team of last spring find themselves and put a string of solid games together without all the ying yang?
In the past ten games the Blues rank around 12th in league record of the 32 teams. Really critical they find a way to stay afloat through these injuries....and if they can manage that I choose half full and still expect these guys to come around to be a good and competitive hockey team.

Flames are playing better than the blues over the past 10
Really turning it around and have a great chance this year

I wonder how many of those 9 Losses they had a 2-Goal Lead, or just a Lead in the 3rd Period in general.dhsux wrote: ↑14 Dec 2025 09:10 am So the Blues have, by far, the worst goal differential in the entire league at -34 with the next closest team being the Nucks at -24.

I’m still dumbfounded that after the beat the Blackhawks on Friday, they were ahead of the Jets in the Standings…

This league is all about the goaltending. We have two goalies that will win us games. There's was injured for half the season.
On Friday morning we were behind the jets in the standing. Friday night, ahead. Saturday night. Back below the jets.
What's crazy is the Jets have 3 more wins then the Blues and the Blies have 5 more loses then the Jets. Who also have a couple games in hand.
Re: Goal Differential
I agree that the Goal Differential is a very important stat to evaluate a team, especially the further along the season goes. It generally goes hand-in-hand with Points Standings. But as we see they do not necessarily linearly correlate.dhsux wrote: ↑14 Dec 2025 09:10 am So the Blues have, by far, the worst goal differential in the entire league at -34 with the next closest team being the Nucks at -24.

A quick scan of the numbers in this particular situation says, as we whom watch the team closely already know:
-The Goaltending has been unexpectedly and terribly inconsistent.
-The forwards have an inability to score, be it not enough skill and/or depth to execute and finish, as well as bad schemes in all situations.
-Overall, the team plays fairly well, BUT just enough to keep games close to at least get an above average of overall points in overtime.
-I'll add one more "Tell." We need a bigger, fast, skilled-hands, high impact Centerman as highest priority.

Re: Goal Differential
At this point the best thing for this team would probably be to keep losing. Trade Schenn and Faulk for picks/prospects and trade everyone on an expiring contract for whatever you can get. If you can find a deal that makes sense for Kyrou and Buchnevich (probably not for Buch) then do that also. Draft as high as possible and try to land a future cornerstone player.

Re: Goal Differential
Yeah I'd agree a lot with Old_Goat. Goal differential usually correlates pretty closely with the standings by the end of the season. You might see a little variation but not much. Since it's only December I think the Blues have a little discrepancy because of just how bad some of the goaltending has been. We've had a lot of blowout losses. When we win we aren't winning big. We're winning usually by a goal at most. So it's skewed a bit more negative than the record because of the wonky goaltending.
Now that Hofer has righted his ship they can probably win a few more games. If Binnington could do the same they'd be in *much* better shape. The offense just isn't there, however, and it doesn't look like it's coming back anytime soon.

Re: Goal Differential
Half empty.
Our expected goal differential is second worst - this ain't all on goalies.
Teams are making their moves, and I fully expect Army to not wait on this team to flip a switch.

On ice composure is lacking.
I think that is where they miss Pie the most. He tended to keep everyone on an even keel.

The Blues are sellers. That’s fact. And here are all the monkeys like the OP hoping for something this year.

Re: Goal Differential
Sometimes you never know. Hey.... I even heard this one story about a team that one season went from last place to winning the Stanley Cup. Really! Sorry, I have no source.
