Re: B. Donovan trade market "ON FIRE" per S.I.
I don’t know. I’m sure that he does have a lot of different teams would love to have him. He’s versatile, so I would imagine that there are different teams with different needs, and Donovan is a guy that can play all over the place. But does having a “massive” amount of teams in on a player mean that he is going to bring back a huge return? I’m not so sure.
I guess it means that the Cardinals can be selective, which is great. I’d rather have a bunch of options. I just don’t expect some huge haul for a guy is a (bleep) good player, but his ceiling kind of is what it is.

If I'm not mistaken, I believe Katie Woo said on 101ESPN yesterday, something along the lines of "IF Brendan Donovan can net a top-100 prospect, the Cardinals should definitely be listening..."
That's paraphrased as I was in the middle of adding wiper fluid to my car but while Donny is no Juan Soto, he better bring back more than a single top-100 prospect.
Now, a top-30 prospect, 4sho, but he's worth more than some random guy ranked in the 70's.

Bloom needs to holdout for both a high level starting pitching prospect. And a high level power hitting prospect at a position of need.blackinkbiz wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 16:03 pm If I'm not mistaken, I believe Katie Woo said on 101ESPN yesterday, something along the lines of "IF Brendan Donovan can net a top-100 prospect, the Cardinals should definitely be listening..."

MLB ready or near ready or trading Donovan is a bust.

I think Bloom already has a very good idea of what kind of return he's gonna get for BD. Now he's working on getting a bidding war going to increase the return.
I'm going with 3:00pm EST on day 2 for the announcement.

Agree with the first sentence, but not convinced that he’ll be getting any bidding wars started. Think a lot of teams would like to have a player like Donovan, but I am not too sure that he’s a good enough player to get them too far out of their comfort zone. I guess that’s Bloom’s job, though. Just convince one team to go a bit over their comfort level, if possible.imyourhuckleberry wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 16:22 pm I think Bloom already has a very good idea of what kind of return he's gonna get for BD. This is going to be a good measuring stick of Bloom's ability to maximize a great trade chip.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 16:28 pmAgree with the first sentence, but not convinced that he’ll be getting any bidding wars started. He may not get a bidding war going, but it's incumbent upon him to try. And "bidding war" is relative. Could just be trying to get one team to sweeten the pot just a little.Ronnie Dobbs wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 16:28 pmAgree with the first sentence, but not convinced that he’ll be getting any bidding wars started. It is his job to maximize return. If he has two or more teams interested maybe he gets one to give a slight overpay. We can hope.imyourhuckleberry wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 16:38 pmHe may not get a bidding war going, but it's incumbent upon him to try. And "bidding war" is relative. Exactly. It just takes one over-eager GM to be a little too in love with BD.AZ_Cardsfan wrote: ↑05 Dec 2025 16:41 pmIt is his job to maximize return. Re: B. Donovan trade market "ON FIRE" per S.I.
from MLBTR:
A Donovan trade, if it happens at all, doesn’t appear to be imminent. Goold writes that president of baseball operations Chaim Bloom and his staff are taking their time to evaluate offers. Ryan Divish and Adam Jude of The Seattle Times write similarly that Donovan is not expected to be moved before the end of the week.

Seems to me that with 4 or so 'very serious' suitors for Donovan that Bloom's scouts etc. are pouring over the prospect lists of those clubs.
That involves a lot of hours of narrowing down with prospect types you are targeting for each team . From one article I read, another unnamed team said the Cardinals are being cautious on which players they are seeking from various teams.

It doesn't take hours, certainly not days, if they did their due diligence on teams prospects. They should have understood what they wanted from teams for him, and come preparedramfandan wrote: ↑09 Dec 2025 21:03 pm Seems to me that with 4 or so 'very serious' suitors for Donovan that Bloom's scouts etc. are pouring over the prospect lists of those clubs.

This ain't some 50 year old man looking up a box score. Bloom's squad should have eyes on certain people in each org, while also having scouting on the rest...
