If the Dodgers moved their franchise to St Louis, they would have to have a fire sale immediately.

St Louis has to find a different way to win. It is not as easy.

When an 8th grader dominates the 4th grade basketball team, that's not always deserving of a whole lot of respect.
I understand it doesn't fit your bias narrative but Smith and Pages are starters. and home grown.

True. Smith and Pages probably would have won the World Series without any help from those other bums.

I do not believe the team deserves to be ranked as one of baseball's all-time best teams.

I simply consider them bought and paid for. Very similar to my thoughts on players who used steroids.

No respect.

No. If we get a legitimate payroll cap and the Dodgers win with the same payroll as everybody else then I'll change my mind.
Do you feel the same way of every team with a high payroll that won a World Series? What if Toronto won? of Philadelphia? What is your high horse threshold? Nope the Dodgers are a model franchise for sure.
They are a model for the top 25% richest teams to follow for sure.

However, they are not a model for the others. It wouldn't work at all in St Louis. Therefore, not a useful model at all.

The Dodgers are an obstacle, not a model.

Setting aside my dislike for them, it's a great organization. They have the money, as they realize that spending money makes more money. They spend smartly on players AND player development. They don't have high draft choices, and, other than Will Smith and Kershaw, didn't have a lot of players from their minors.
The money the organization makes from winning far outweighs what they spend - maybe not all in operating profit but clearly in enhanced value of the team for resale purposes.
De-Nit-Witt & Co. don't understand this basic premise.

This article shows how both the Blue Jays and the Dodgers were built. It's the modern-day paradigm for success.

I don’t have to love them, but they made it happen. You could have given me that money and I wouldn’t have pulled it off.
Signing the top 2 or 3 elite FA every year would be pretty easy to pull off.

Do they have talented players? Yes. Do they expose loopholes in the rules? Yes. Have they taken advantage of situations? Yes. Has MLB protected them? Yes.

Everything listed about them is true. Have they cheated to achieve their successes? No. But I wouldn't exactly say they do things the right way. Therefore it is hard for me to respect them.

Why? Because they use their resources? Would you rather they not use them?

I think of them very much like the Yankees of the last century. Outspent everyone. Hell, they literally bought Babe Ruth. Couple that with a massive farm system churning out talent.

It would be shocking if they were not winning consistently. They need something, go buy it in free agency or use your prospects to trade for it.

Hahaha. I knew someone would come along to ask or debate that statement. The Dodgers are known to manipulate the Injured List. Especially when it comes to pitching and roster moves. They have also managed to use deferred contracts to their advantage. Now is this cheating? No. Are they using loopholes and bending rules? Yes. I think a solid argument can be made that this isn't exactly operating under the intended spirit of the game's competitive spirit. They have altered the competitive balance.

Back in the 80s, and there were only 4 teams making the Superbowl year after year (SF, Dallas, Oakland, Pittsburg), those teams weren't "good for football". They had deeper pickets than everyone else. Then the NFL sharpened up, and the salary cap was born. Thats what made the NFL the success it is today.

I dont know how The Dodgers being the destination for every top FA is "good for baseball".

They may be good for the players, because it forces teams to overpay for 3rd rate free agents in hopes to keep up .

The Didgers have the highest paid pitcher in the game, and the highest paid position player in the game. And, that position player is only costing them 2 mil per year at present time.

Imo, the Dodgers are good for the players, and good for Dodger fans. I dont see how they benefit the success of the sport, other than world series viewers who want to watch Ohtani play, while rooting against the Dodgers.

We all know what would be good for baseball, and that's 35k fans filling parks in Pittsburg, KC, St. Louis, like they did years ago. A salary cap would do that. It worked for the NFL.
