Re: Would Cardinals give Wetherholt in exchange for Harper?
Giving the Phillies salary relief would make it even worse. Harper is a stud, but he’s too old for that deal. Phillies would be fleecing us, unless it turned out that Wetherholt was a complete bust and Harper managed to stay very healthy for years to come, but that’s two unlikely bets to make that we can’t afford to lose.Shady wrote: ↑26 Oct 2025 18:28 pmThat's an intriguing trade proposal. Much better than the Wetherholt for Harper that I threw out there. Though, the Cardinals could include some salary relief in a Wetherholt for Harper deal to make it more palatable. Harper is a really, really good, proven MLB slugger in case anybody hasn't noticed..CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑26 Oct 2025 18:25 pmYou would have been better off pitching a trade of Wetherholt and Liberatore for Skenes. Pittsburgh has already wasted two years of Skenes and Wetherholt gives them an everyday player who is promotable right now with 6 years of control and a decent mid-to backend starter with 3 more years of control.
I know this example is far-fetched but those are the only types of moves a team in our position should consider if moving such a high-end prospect. Star level youth at a position of great need.

Yep, it would be a gamble. But I remember the Carlson, Gorman and Walker situations.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑26 Oct 2025 18:38 pmGiving the Phillies salary relief would make it even worse. My problem is I don’t know enough about trade values to answer your question specifically but I would be interested to see what a Winn/Donovan deal would bring. It’s taken me a long time to digest trading Donovan but there is going to have to be some bold moves. Also I would only consider that type of deal for offense not pitching.
And even so I would only do as part of a rebuild not looking for quick fix.

I actually got it backwards…you meant the Phillies giving the relief, of course. Still, they’d have to basically pay him to play in STL, so relief is an understatement. Even then, he’s still too old. Maybe if this was going to be his age 30 season or something. Youth for youth only. Can’t trade our best youth to get older.Shady wrote: ↑26 Oct 2025 18:43 pmYep, it would be a gamble. I wouldn't trade Wetherholt for Harper. But I'm sure the Phillies would jump at a return of Burleson and Saggese. Make it happen!
Re: Would Cardinals give Wetherholt in exchange for Harper?
I dont think that would be a very good move.

Sweet mother of god I pray the team isn't as incredibly stupid enough to trade a potential star with all of his control left for a 33 year old star dragging a massive contract with him. Please don't let this idiotic idea ever leave this forum.
PS - Phil would leap at this offer.

Re: Would Cardinals give Wetherholt in exchange for Harper?
Well…..let’s see
Trade a young, highly rated prospect….under team control for six years
for an aging, highly paid player whose best years are probably behind him…
What could go wrong?

First you make a stupid proposal that’s totally out of the realm of what Bloom is trying to do.Shady wrote: ↑26 Oct 2025 18:41 pmSY, hotshot. Then, you can’t even handle honest criticism from MIDMOBIRDTWO and others.

So you’re saying you needed some attention.Shady wrote: ↑26 Oct 2025 18:18 pmGood reasoning. I don't disagree. "target the 28 and under young veteran in either trades or free agency". That absolutely would be ideal. I just threw the Wetherholt for Harper suggestion out there on another slow day on CT. LOLCorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑26 Oct 2025 18:08 pm This team is perpetually rebuilding or resetting or whatever the hell they’re calling it.
As much as I hate prospect drooling and believe experience and proven veterans are needed on this team, I have to say Wetherholt is too much (like the aforementioned Devers scenario) and Harper is too old. We’ve been burned by the age wall way too much the last several years….Arenado, Goldschmidt, Yadi, Wainwright.
The team needs to target the 28 and under young veteran in either trades or free agency.

Why do you people keep falling into the “Shady” trap and keep feeding the monster?
No sane person would even realistically consider this inane perposal! Hes just doing it for the attention.
Don’t respond and he’ll, eventually, go away!

Shady, I have actually come to your defense on some of your discussions. Bro, you make it very difficult to take your initiated topics seriously. You put yourself out there. Dont ever complain that people are bashing you. This is perhaps your dumbest thread in your posting career. I just hope you dont ever find a way to top it. Go get some fresh air brother.
