That’s much much different.

This is a young player not an 8 million dollar core player.

Plus Berube crossed the line into saying things you just can’t say.
Core players should be held more accountable, not less. Or at least equitably. You can't have prima donnas. But again, in private, not in public.

In my career, the best bosses always had "discussions" with employees about performance in private. Enlightened management is enlightened management, no matter what field. Monty's public comments were out of line. All he had to answer was "no comment" to that question.
No they weren’t out of line at all. Totally appropriate.

And everyone knows Berube crossed the lines. You don’t talk about heart and you don’t talk about money. I’m surprised he lasted as long as he did because that’s a serious violation in that role.

I disagree — Berube’s statements were fair.
It doesn’t matter your perception of fair. It’s a no no in the industry
Monty knows it's a no-no.

Is Monty wanting out?
He did the same thing in Boston, and honestly, I feel for Monty — he’s dealing with a bi-polar team. Personally, I’d rather see us go through a full rebuild. Bring in young, hungry players who want to prove themselves and chase a Stanley Cup.
You feel for him? He was excited to take the job talking up the organization when he got here. He getting paid to deal with personalities. The issues are more than just Snuggerud - the forward group in general looks off so far. Back to organizational philosophy, team looks the same as when Bannister was here this time last year.

This place is downright insane after a loss. The trolls just run amok with nonsensical garbage.

Monty was blunt but fair last night. Said the whole team didn’t start on time. He’s not wrong. When asked why Snuggy only had one shift in the 3rd he gave an honest answer. I’m sure Snuggy will respond.

Teams go through this. Not uncommon at all. Monty is trying to up the competitiveness and accountability. I have no issues with anything he said postgame last night.

In part, yes, same thing Monty did by calling out Snuggerud. But when asked specifically about a player, Monty said what he thought. I don't think it was much, to be honest. And I'm sure it's the same thing he told him in person.
I agree he had to tell him the exact same thing, and probably a lot more, but did not share with the media. Again who cares about what the industry says accountability is part of being a professional paid athlete.
Those with an agenda or faux-fans of the Blues are the only ones who care. The rest of us understand professional sports.
Yep. This thread is hilarious. Oh...he was VERY critical of Snuggerud.
All he said when asked about his one shift was " "He wasn't skating tonight, wasn't checking. I didn't think it was his night."

It was to the point and answered the question. I've heard MUCH worse in interviews.

The team is 3-2-1. It's been SIX games.
I just watched the video and that is literally ALL he said! Hardly scathing criticism in my book. So those making a big deal of it either have an agenda or are the softest people around. Hell, maybe it’s both.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with what he said. It wasn't personal, it was matter of fact. As Tony Larusso used to say. Men, not machines. Not everyday is their best day.

Times have changed, and we’re going to start seeing more Berube-style callouts across professional sports. I’m already noticing it in the NFL — coaches and managers are beginning to hold players publicly accountable. These multi-millionaire $$$ athletes are no longer immune to criticism or exempt from accountability.
This is the most woke time in the history of history. Where ya been. You can’t say sheet

Tell me when the next berube incident happens.

Jimmy has a whole new world that’s opened up to him. All of our young players went through this. That’s just the way life goes for a young NHL player.
We saw it with EJ and the MacInnis driveway incident
We saw it Oshie and Bergy with the 24/7 non stop party at their CWE condo. Pretty sure they missed a practice or two as well. We saw it with Hull and Shanny as well.
Until I see Jimmy hanging out shirtless with Cuba Gooding Jr, I ain’t gonna be to worried about him.

Not really, the shelf life had expired....the public stuff and firing were both symptoms of that.

For sure that was part of it. Had he not had the cup on his resume it would have been sooner. Even Armstrong publicly said he messed up

No kidding...you, Somni and Frank Underwood are all correct. It's bad enough that some of the agendized knucklehead posters here have limited understanding of the game (likely did not play at a very high level), but they are the last people you would want to receive leadership lessons from.

At the time, they couldn't get the value they wanted for Kyrou (Armstrong publicly came out later and stated "maybe I'm overvaluing our players"), so they fired Berube as the last attempt to put the ball in Kyrou and Thomas' court as a "perform now or else".

They didn't perform and Armstrong thought he finally had his bailout trade with Tkachuk, which epically backfired and got Armstrong backed into the corner he's in now with the roster....overpaying for Buchnevich and stuck with Kyrou's no trade.

I feel like its been a series of Plan C's since the Tkachuk trade fell through. Same as it was when Pietrangelo left...scrambling to piece it together with lesser options.

That’s such a narcissistic view — calling people “knuckle posters with limited understanding of the game” just because their opinion doesn’t align with yours. So, when someone disagrees with you, their perspective is automatically dismissed as uninformed?

No, you are wrong. I didn't say "uninformed." I said limited understanding. That is not based upon opinion, rather it is based upon many obvious words in black & white that they have posted in the past. But more importantly my very highly informed experience in leadership allows me to assess their ability or lack thereof to lecture others about leadership. If that offends you, then try to get over it.

Didn't Strickland ask Montgomery on the bench about generating more offense, and he replied it wasn't happening because they thought they could standing still. Basically the same thing he said about 21 when asked about him specifically.

Here is what I think is particularly concerning about what was said...

1) The problems with the "team culture/team competitiveness/team fight/team professionalism" are back. Picture January 2025 again.

That would be bad enough. However, it's worse.

2) Those problems have possibly now spilled over Snuggerud. Is Snuggie just one more lego in the ugly sculpture now? And that, Sports Fans, is uber-concerning.

I would've started Snuggy started in OT...not the clumsy Buchnevich.

Buchnevich should be scratched or waived.

so when are we going to see older/top line players, not pulling their weight, lose minutes, get called out and sit.

doing it to the younger players only, is [nonsense]
