If we claim him we would have to keep him on the roster correct?
If the Blues are the only team to claim him, they can send him down without waivers. Of another team puts a claim in, I believe the Blues would have to either keep him on the NHL (or he’d be subject to waivers if they send him down).
Honestly with the performance hofer gave i would just trade him and keep ellis up. Extend binnington
Trade Hofer bc of a bad game??? Hmm then listen to the (bleep) and moaning when he's some bodies franchise goalie
He just reminds me oftourek self imploding. But i have always tgought ellis was our future goalie. Wish ee could have kept him. Now we have to hope zherenko can get better
Another troll account for bleeder/graceo. What an idiot
I actually know snuggyfresh is not a troll account. lol

I Believe Ellis will be a better goalie. Honestly

STL fan in MN wrote: 20 Oct 2025 08:31 am I think there’s a good chance we can get Ellis back. Lyon has won his last 2 games and shutout the Panthers on Saturday. I’d expect him to get the start today against the Habs too.

Luukkonen rejoined the Sabres in practice 6 days ago but I don’t see anything on a timeline on when he’s expected to return. He got hurt the very first preseason game so all he’s played so far this season is 20 minutes of that first preseason game and that’s it. Wouldn’t be surprised if they send him to the AHL a bit to get some rehab starts so may still be a while before they have to make a decision of Ellis.
I hope the Blues get him back, but won't we have to go thru this whole song and dance next year too? I was hoping the Blues could get to the next contracts of Binner and Hofer and they could decide what to do with the org based off of our results. But that wouldn't be until next season. If our team looks like it isn't ascending to a cup team, we ask Binner what he wants to do. If we look like we are challenging for a cup, then you deal one of the other 2, but if Ellis goes thru waivers and gets back with the Blues, that will signal that his stock isn't that high until he gets NHL time. So you would probably have to trade Hofer to get some immediate value.
If the Blues get him back, I would hope that after a year his stock my rise some and maybe the Blues could get a pick or something. It's a stretch because goalies, especially prospects, don't usually bring back much of a return.
If we can get Ellis back then yeah, we’d have basically the rest of this season and the off-season to figure it out or have to risk Ellis on waivers again. I would imagine the solution would either be trading Hofer for a decent asset or trading Ellis for a small asset. Which move is preferable would totally depend on the play of Hofer and Ellis AND what we could get for either.

As of today, I’m not convinced Hofer has the mental game Binner has (few do admittedly). No idea on Ellis as he has zero NHL minutes to date. That said, Binner wasn’t even in the league until age 25 and Hofer is on Year 3.

Do the waiver rules change at all if he's placed back on waivers? As in, since he was our property prior to being claimed, do we get first crack at him?

Yeah and a lot of people here thought bishop was worth losing to keep allen how did that work out
As far as I am concerned we cannot be upset with just about anything 10 years or so prior to 2019.

How close is their injured goalie to coming back? Maybe that will force their hand...

Binnington has given up 7+ goals in a game 4 times. That game was not the end of the road for Hofer's chances of developing into a good NHL starter. He's looked really good at times and it's a matter of doing it consistently. Ellis hasn't even faced an NHL shot. He could be better but no one knows it.

Once again I think hofer will be a really good goalie. I just think ellis hada better set of tools and was having back to back great seasons in ahl. Plus we wont have to pay him for a couple more years and save money to0 be used elsewhere
