Your title asks “would he”. Sounds like a hard no based on his own comments.
Could he? Probably so. He might crave attention, he’s not half as funny as he thinks he is, and one of the world’s worst musicians….but he was a smart player who knew the game, great teammate, and had zero quit in him and a good man. He’d make a pretty great pitching coach and maybe manager too.

You’re welcome, and welcome back! But don’t go posting more of that Burly smack everyday or we won’t be able to stay friends for long Lol!Shady wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 18:40 pmThank you, Corney. His fellow broadcasters are regularly surprised by the vapidity of many of his comments - and often correct him on air.
Very good pitcher in his prime.
But he is an 8-count crayon box in a 64-box game.

Sounds kind of harsh Melville! But what do I know? I had to look up the definition for vapidity. There you go with those teaching moments again, expanding my vocabulary! Haha!
Re: Would Wainwright be interested in managing?
no. wainwright was the same guy during all those years he was struggling that saod he knew what went wrong andbhe was confident hednhave it fixed durong the next start only for him to be rocked again. i have no confidence in his assessment abilities.
very talented pitcher but i see nothing that makes em think manager. just cuz a player is good doesnt make them a manager.

Re: Would Wainwright be interested in managing?
and during his stretch of years whem he was struggling after the achilles injury, hed always say he wzached film and realized a minor tweal and knew what happened and was confident hed be back to form the mext start- over and over again. i dont trust his assessment abilities. lol
Re: Would Wainwright be interested in managing?
How about Burly for player manager Shady? Has any player previously made the Hall of Fame this way? I may be wrong, but I think he would go down as the first to enter the Hall as a double entry. Patiently waiting for your thoughts?

He said far too many things about himself over the years that proved to be completely false.
Poor assessment on his part?
Or lack of candor?

Now you’ve done it…he hadn’t explored that idea yet! If we see hundreds of threads on this, it’s all your fault!

I’ve seen the sandwich reference a few times now but not sure I’m getting it…does it imply Mel is actually a “BBW”? So tell me why you don't like Burleson. To me, considering some others, he is an overachiever. Something the Cardinals need more of. Don't you think? Would you rather gloat about Walker and Gorman? If so, go for it.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 18:48 pmYou’re welcome, and welcome back! I wouldn’t say he’s an overachiever, just a 1 1/2 tool player who is what he is. He can hit for average with some pop and doesn’t embarrass himself at 1B. Don’t like him in the OF at all.Shady wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:29 pmSo tell me why you don't like Burleson. To me, considering some others, he is an overachiever. Something the Cardinals need more of. I also wouldn’t say I don’t like him, I just think he’s over-hyped in a weird kind of way. Good bench guy worth keeping though. I wouldn’t miss him either if they traded him for a good BP arm or maybe better, a similarly productive RH hitting OFer.
Edited for your additional comment: I never once “gloated” about Gorman or Walker?? I used to say Walker deserved the kind of long runway they gave Burleson his first few years when he was terrible.
Walker did get some more opportunities though this year and squandered them. Burleson was pretty bad too though his first few years and they kept running him out there and he finally improved.

Re: Would Wainwright be interested in managing?
CorneliusWolfe, I apologize in advance! LOL. I was just considering all available options in trying to utilize Burly's unique skill sets. I thought maybe him being the manager would add to his current 5 tools playing acumen.CorneliusWolfe wrote: ↑19 Oct 2025 20:15 pmNow you’ve done it…he hadn’t explored that idea yet!
