He went #9 and the Blues picked at #16. Unfortunately Parekh wasn't available anymore by the time the Blues picked (he was drafted by Calgary). If he was, it's safe to say he would have been taken instead. There's a draft order and only way teams can pick higher is by trading, or by finishing lower in the standings. Some players also mature faster than others but doesn't mean they'll definitively be the better player. I'd say wait a few years and then we can come back and see what production looks like. Way too early to "compare".
In the 2023 season, the Blues won 5 more games total than Minnesota and Calgary. This led to Minnesota selecting Buium, and Calgary selecting Parekh, and St Louis selecting Jiricek.
Fast forward to now.
Buium and Parekh are starting and playing key roles on defense.
Jiricek is somewhere in Eastern Canada, playing mediocre hockey in the OHL, going to Burger King afterwards to gain 25lbs.
For quick fix to RHD in 2025, Army sent Bolduc to Montreal so that we could watch Maillloux try to be 1/2 as good as Buium or Parekh.
Meanwhile, Bolduc is making fans roar in Montreal.
Draft position matters, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOUR SCOUTING DEPARTMENT IS MEDIOCRE.
Sidenote, I wanted Solberg too.
