However, with the way his Cardinal tenure ended and now this, I wonder if there are aspects about him or his personality that we don't have the full details of from where we sit (and that's true for any of these personnel).
As has been expressed already in the thread, I hope the best for his health and hope that is not a reason.

Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
He's basically saying burnout. Sounds stress related. Best of luck to himC-Unit wrote: ↑13 Oct 2025 12:20 pmHe does appear to be a very smart baseball man who can get his teams playing good fundamental baseball and get all the stars to pull in the same direction (like Larussa did). Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
Seems like he needs a break, yet he is only 57. The article said he is retiring as the SD manager.2ninr wrote: ↑13 Oct 2025 12:31 pmHe's basically saying burnout. Sounds stress related. Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
Considering he very candidly cited his health, I think it’s safe to say his health is the primary reason.C-Unit wrote: ↑13 Oct 2025 12:20 pmHe does appear to be a very smart baseball man who can get his teams playing good fundamental baseball and get all the stars to pull in the same direction (like Larussa did). Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
There were rumors earlier this year that Shildt had problems with president of baseball operations A.J. Preller and at least some of his coaching staff.
From mlbtraderumors.com - "Per Bob Nightengale of USA Today, Shildt is not necessarily retiring from baseball altogether. Rather, he is simply not looking to continue managing in the immediate future. When asked about the possibility, Shildt said, “Not at the moment. I need a break and take care of myself.” That’s not a definitive declaration that he’ll return to the dugout at some point, but Shildt left the door open for potential future opportunities. "
Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
Speculation in San Diego is it was a mutual parting of the way, but Shildt got the option to "retire" and also got a nice buyout.
Evidently, he butted heads with analytics department, but he got to call his shot as to why he left.
Good baseball man and probably needed to step away from a bit.
I suspect he will manage again one day.

Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
Very capable manager, but also a very emotional man. Walking away from it for awhile is best for him.
Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
A team that will never get over the top. He probably wants to come back as a dodger so he actually can win.

Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
BK and Ferrario reported today that the narratives coming from the Pads org were almost identical to those surrounding his departure from the Cards. Butting heads with Pres of Baseball ops and very "strained" relationships with coaching staff.hmoss859 wrote: ↑13 Oct 2025 14:08 pm Speculation in San Diego is it was a mutual parting of the way, but Shildt got the option to "retire" and also got a nice buyout.

Maybe this one wasn't on Mo so much after all. Of course, I never thought getting rid of Schilty was the error; it was replacing him with a 0-experience dimwitt.
Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
With the salary he has made the past several years, it is not necessary that he manages again. He could serve in other baseball roles without the daily stress of managing.Pura Vida wrote: ↑13 Oct 2025 12:48 pmSeems like he needs a break, yet he is only 57. Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
I believe this is probably the truth. He wouldn't walk away from $8m. But I think he would settle for 1/2 to 2/3 of that to be able to set the narrative in his favor.
Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
Mikey was fired - poor baby!
Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
Here’s a scenario.. 2027 Yadi is hired as Cardinal manager and wants veteran bench coach so offers that job to Schildt.
Good fundamental guy for the young guys. Be hilarious!
Won’t happen but Schildt would get his payback on Mo.
