Mike Shildt to retire?
That's what I am hearing
Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
It's what a lot of people are hearing, since it's being reported in the San Diego Tribune:

Pretty shocking... I mean I kinda assumed he'd get fired but I figured he had many years left of managing in him. Maybe still does and this is just a TLR-like hiatus.

Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
I think he had two years left on his contract. Weird.
Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
This is very surprising to me.

His letter makes it sound like he didn't like the grind/pressure of it anymore. Maybe he'll come back eventually as a bench coach, where the seat doesn't get as hot.

Hopefully it's not health related and he's just burnt out from the grind.

Stunned if true. Wondering if there are private health concerns (his own or a family members) he wants to focus on. I doubt this is the end for Shildt. Francona retired and then came back after a break.3dender wrote: ↑13 Oct 2025 11:12 am It's what a lot of people are hearing, since it's being reported in the San Diego Tribune:

He’s burnt out can’t blame him. He made enough time to relax. Well done Mike.

Re: Mike Shildt to retire?
He does appear to be a very smart baseball man who can get his teams playing good fundamental baseball and get all the stars to pull in the same direction (like Larussa did). However, with the way his Cardinal tenure ended and now this, I wonder if there are aspects about him or his personality that we don't have the full details of from where we sit (and that's true for any of these personnel).
As has been expressed already in the thread, I hope the best for his health and hope that is not a reason.

Shildt reportedly makes $4M/yr.
With two years remining on his extension he's walking away from at least $8M.
