The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty

Yes, you should be able to overcome a 15-yd penalty early in a game, but it did change the momentum at that moment. On the opening possession we had just moved down the field somewhat easily & scored. We had Bama backed up, our players were jacked up, the crowd was sky high. I guess Zion was too jacked up. That play threw a wet blanket on the proceedings. Yes, we should have overcome it, but in a 3-point game I believe it made a big difference in the outcome.

Mizzou did overcome the penalty and stayed in the game for 60 minutes.

I'm not sure anyone is saying that we lost because of it. But the game absolutely changed.

But as someone in the stands, you could tell the whole situation in the stadium, mostly importantly on the field and the sideline, was different.

The biggest momentum swing in the game is when Zion Young had the strip sack on the first play of the third quarter, and three plays later Mizzou was in the end zone and tied the game.

But that went in the Tiger's favor, so it was overlooked by the GDT community.

But as someone in the stands, you could tell the whole situation in the stadium, mostly importantly on the field and the sideline, was different.

The issue is that the penalty for 'taunting' is more subjective than the call for targeting - blue bloods taunt and trash talk all the time and no issue. Even on MU's home field they get homered by the SEC with [nonsense] calls - have to expect the homering and try to play above.

I witnessed some bias with the SEC refs in this game.
There were more than a few occasions where the refs completely ignored "holding" or "face mask" penalties on the Crimson Tide.
It happens all the time in Mizzou sports and it happened again in this game.
I witness many fouls by opposing teams against Mizzou in basketball and they do not get called.
This is definitely a pattern of behavior by the refs.
Unfortunately, I saw it again yesterday.
I also notice that Jesse Palmer and Joe Tessitore were so bias against Mizzou in this game.
Too many people within the SEC higher echelon are so bias against Mizzou succeeding.
Just my opinion.
SEC should have "reviewers" looking at officiating" after key games and point out mistakes by referees.
These refs should be called out and suspended a few games until they realize their mistakes and get it right going forward.

Marquis Johnson was wide open on the last pass and might have scored. Along with multiple other passing plays in which there were wide open guys who didn't get thrown too. Not to mention 12 carries from the best RB in the country going up against a bad run defense. And a taunting penalty that, if hadn't happened, would have forced a 3rd and 15, and most likely a 3 and out after Missouri marched down the field on 6 plays. But, yeah. Blame the refs. Nothing more predictable.

Real Mizzou fans saw Mizzou rise three spots in the ESPN Power Index and one spot in the CBS Sports Power rankings.

Mizzou fell only two spots in the AP Poll remaining ahead of Vandy, who fell four spots after losing to the Tide last week.

but, did it affect the outcome of the game? It was 4th and 15. then the penalty and it breathed life for the Bama offense and went on to score a touchdown

These boys go out there with their hair on fire, playing a gladiator sport hitting and getting hit constantly for 3 hours. They’re going to be prone to lose it mentally at times. They’re boys in their late teens and early 20’s.

But sometimes maturity and discipline is what wins titles and immature and undisciplined teams wish it had gone a different way and don’t get to the top. It’s on the coaches to help these boys be as strong mentally as possible. That was one of Saban’s best gifts, coaching discipline and he wasn’t afraid to be the (donkey)(pit).

We can understand why this sort of taunting, losing your cool, etc happens, but it doesn’t make it ok either.

That's right. On the first play of the third quarter, Young rushed the QB with his hair on fire, hit Simpson and forced a fumble.

It changed the momentum of the game, and three plays later the game was tied.
