The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty
It would have been 3rd and 15. We had them where we wanted them and Young bailed them out.

Enough said. It set the tone for the first quarter. Undisciplined football.

Undisciplined football has been a problem under ED.slimjay63801 wrote: ↑11 Oct 2025 19:55 pm Enough said. It set the tone for the first quarter. Undisciplined football.

Yeah, there is no excuse for that kind of thing, even if you think it was a weak call. You don't give the refs any excuse to call a penalty there. Dead ball penalties are THE worst.hockey jedi wrote: ↑11 Oct 2025 19:41 pm It would have been 3rd and 15. We had them where we wanted them and Young bailed them out.
Re: The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty
I'm sure many will say I'm showing my age or something, but I am heartily sick of these taunting behaviors and the ridiculous celebrations by every player after they make a decent play. And the Mizzou guys did a lot more of it than Bama did in this game. So you make a good play, not a spectacular one. Why celebrate like you just won the game singlehandedly? It's your job to make that play. It's what you're supposed to do. Why not just walk back to the line like it's what you're expected to do? It might even be counterproductive; it's likely to tick off the opposing players and make them want to do all they possibly can to show YOU up the next time.
Young's penalty was incredibly stupid. He wasn't even a part of the play, he purposely ran 10 yards over to the Bama player after the play just to stand over him and shout. You know...these guys are now getting paid. Well, maybe what the coaching staff should do is fine them real money for doing such stupid, undisciplined stuff. Heck, put the money in a pool for the scholarship guys that AREN'T getting paid.

Not showing your age just showing common sense.Rvrartst wrote: ↑11 Oct 2025 21:13 pm I'm sure many will say I'm showing my age or something, but I am heartily sick of these taunting behaviors and the ridiculous celebrations by every player after they make a decent play. The "look at me" [nonsense] has been going on far too long. No one cares about "your brand" just do your job and get your (donkey) back in the huddle.
I've been sick of it for a long time. Selfish stupidity.
Started in the NFL and of course it trickles down to the college players.
Re: The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty
The issue is that the penalty for 'taunting' is more subjective than the call for targeting - blue bloods taunt and trash talk all the time and no issue. Even on MU's home field they get homered by the SEC with [nonsense] calls - have to expect the homering and try to play above.
Re: The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty
These have been a problem every game. In fact, the official was reaching for his flag at the end of one of Hardy's runs in the 3rd when Hardy got in the face of the Bama defender. Fortunately, he walked away just in time. That penalty was a HUGE shift in momentum and pretty much took the crowd out of the game the rest of the day, save the beginning of the 3rd quarter.
Re: The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty
It was an utterly selfish penalty that turned the game around early. And Drink has never gotten a handle on this nonsense. It happens over and over and over again.

Agree! Very well said!
Re: The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty
Talk about a game changer. In recent years, I dont recall opponents taunting Mizzou. But way too many for Mizzou. If I was coach, his butt would have been on the bench immediately.
Re: The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty
I don't get how it still happens.
A coach should be crystal clear on the ramifications if it does, thereby eliminating this act from the field.
Clearly, the ramifications are not there with Drink and he handles it as he handles it.
It was a huge turning point for a 3 point game to say nothing of momentum KILLER.

No it hasn't.
You didn't win 90% of your close games by "consistently" playing that way.

Re: The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty
Ken, I thought about that too. However, Young is a captain, which makes it even worse. If he was a less important player, he would have been on the bench. I understand being amped up for the game and playing with emotion. I also understand these are extremely young men who are still developing maturity. The MU players that were celebrating weren't even by the Alabama player. I hope they explain to him how that killed the momentum and he has to be more aware and control his emotions.

It takes a big man like hockey Jedi to wait seven weeks before Mizzou lost to participate in this forum.
Re: The game changed with Zion Young's taunting penalty
This was a great thread. I’ve noticed the same lack of discipline for a while, and yesterday’s game really showed it. Even the announcers called out the taunting penalty—and then a few plays later, same player another penalty. The frustrating part is that the game was winnable.
