It clearly hit his hand, after it hit his bat = foul ball.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 23:16 pmHit his hand. Excellent point ! How Carpenter did vs. Kirby last Saturday was certainly a major factor plus his 4 for 8 career off him too. He had killed Kirby . There are more factors involved that sometimes fans do not take into account . You were on top of it ! Good post !12xu wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 21:34 pmMaybe you missed game last Saturday, when Carpenter hit a 2 run bomb off Kirby? Perhaps you are unaware that Carpenter in his career is 4 for 8 off Kirby, with all 4 being HR, and 7 RBI???Melville wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 21:04 pmIt was a stupid move.
And I told my wife it would backfire before Carpenter batted.
Remove a starter who has a low pitch count and who has been pitching brilliantly, in favor of a relief pitcher who is coming in cold, is likely to need a few pitches to get in rhythm, and who may or may not have his "A" stuff.
The known was a far smarter bet than the unknown and the risk factor was far greater than leaving Kirby in.
Data is extremely important, but this is a great example of common sense being sacrificed to common practice.
Re: ALDS game 5
The longer this goes , the more the odds that a defensive miscue may make the difference in the outcome.
Re: ALDS game 5
Cal Raleigh why don't you end this thing?
or Julio.........Flaherty might walk them all......

Re: ALDS game 5
it clearly hits the bat first, actually barely closer to him than the hand/middle of the hand. It doesnt hit the bat directly above hand or go straight into the hand, it hits barely up the bat towards the handle first.

cant imagine JF gets out of the inning.
Re: ALDS game 5
Correct me if I'm wrong but...they called it a HBP. But he attempted to bunt it and missed it. He didn't pull the bat back so it should have been called a strike even if it hit him. He attempted to bunt and missed it.Clubmaker2 wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 23:23 pm it clearly hits the bat first, actually barely closer to him than the hand/middle of the hand. Re: ALDS game 5
he gets the ground double play to get out of it
Re: ALDS game 5
Sure he can if he gets a ground ball double play ball ..

Re: ALDS game 5
He did not miss it, he hit it slightly and then it hit his hand, thus, it is a foul ball, same as if it went down and hit him in his foot.brock118 wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 23:28 pmCorrect me if I'm wrong but...they called it a HBP. Flaherty making great pitches when he had to.
Otherwise he was all over the place.
Great game.

Re: ALDS game 5
I believe by rule he did NOT attempt to bunt it .. He did square around to bunt but the batter must push the bat forward some in order for it to be an attempt... merely just holding the bat in that position does not constitute an attempted bunt .. at least I do not think so . now correct me if I am wrongbrock118 wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 23:28 pmCorrect me if I'm wrong but...they called it a HBP. Re: ALDS game 5
If the ball hits the bat it makes no difference if the batter intended to hit it or not. Just as if a guy tries to hold up and hits a ball into fair territory, it still counts.ramfandan wrote: ↑10 Oct 2025 23:34 pmI believe by rule he did NOT attempt to bunt it ..
