ALDS game 5

Post by 12xu »

Josh Naylor may not look like a ballplayer, but he sure plays like one. Doubles off Skubal, steals third and scores on a SF by Garver to put Seattle up 1-0. One of the slowest runners in MLB, but he has stolen 30 bases this year.

Meanwhile, George Kirby demonstrates how to pitch to Javy Baez, striking him out on three pitches out of the strike zone.

Yea I’m with you on that if he can steal 30 bases and Soto can steal 38 Winn has no excuse for not stealing 30

HR Kerry Carpenter. And that is why you never go to the pen in a shutout.

It was the proper move, Speier just made a terrible pitch to Carpenter.

It’s funny listening to AJ talking like he knows more about pitching than Waino.

It was a stupid move.
And I told my wife it would backfire before Carpenter batted.
Remove a starter who has a low pitch count and who has been pitching brilliantly, in favor of a relief pitcher who is coming in cold, is likely to need a few pitches to get in rhythm, and who may or may not have his "A" stuff.
The known was a far smarter bet than the unknown and the risk factor was far greater than leaving Kirby in.
Data is extremely important, but this is a great example of common sense being sacrificed to common practice.

Maybe you missed game last Saturday, when Carpenter hit a 2 run bomb off Kirby? Perhaps you are unaware that Carpenter in his career is 4 for 8 off Kirby, with all 4 being HR, and 7 RBI???

I'm so tired of managers pulling stud starters for nobody middle relievers. Phils manager with Sanchez last night, and the reliever walked in the tying run. Tonight, it was Skubal pulled at 99 pitches while pitching a 2-hitter with 13 Ks, though it wasn't a shutout.

It's the pussification of starting pitchers by pencil-pushing geeks marching to the tune of "100 pitch roadblocks" and "3rd times through the order." And it has made the game worse.

Yeah, I have no problem with Kirby being pulled. Skuball being pulled at 99 pitches was dumb.

Helluva game! Detroit has their top of the lineup up here in the 11th, with Gilbert in for another inning.....and Carpenter singles up the middle. He now has 4 of the Tigers' 5 hits in the game.

and then Waino tells the audience that Gilbert is going with his fastball .. he doesn't 82 mph ... Waino chuckles after being foooled .. then before the next pitch , he will go fastball on this one .. and he does NOT again and strikes out the batter ! lol So Waino guesses wrong twice back to back on national TV.

So Waino had his moment too
