Foligno. Middleton. Trenin

Wild are one of those handful of teams that bullies us around every year
Lucic is not going to stop that. Thats just not how it works.
Lucic would beat the (bleep) out of Foligno buddy, that is how it works
No its not, if it were Lucic wouldn't be unsigned. Games are 60 minutes long and Lucic is good for about 4. If you want toughness to matter it is a team concept and the players actually on the ice playing hockey have to be tough.
You are straw manning my original point into something about not understanding how team toughness works. Are you seriously arguing that adding a guy like Lucic (or similar Heavy) doesn’t add to your team toughness significantly? Let’s see Foligno take a run at 50 with him in the lineup. The Sens just traded for MacDermid so they wouldn’t get bullied by teams like the Habs.

Armstrong made the same points to the press as to why they signed him to a tryout. He’s still in the mix hope they find a place for him, for nights like Thursday against the Wild
Yes I am absolutely seriously arguing that, I think other teams would love for us to put Lucic on the ice and I think Foligno would love for him to take retaliatory penalties.

Adding guys that are not good at hockey does not make your team better. I love the toughness aspect but you have to be able to play good hockey.

I don't think I would model my strategy off the Ottawa Senators.

Not to be confused I'm all for adding guys that are mean and tough but its got to be guys that can play hockey.....nobody is afraid you might put a player on the ice that is a hockey liability.
Looch is Maroon 6 years later. funny how Pattie won 3 cups in a row. why because your "skill" players skate with a little more authority because they know if someone F's with them they know Looch will have their back. Just as Pattie did, or Twister and Chase had Hullies back, or McSorley had Gretz back. if your too young to understand that then just look at how they abused Binner a few years ago because they were soft especially at D. The Blues have built a heavy 3rd line when Sunny gets back to be what the 4th line was last year. leaving a 4th line to just spot stir up the pot and give 1-3 a extra breather once or twice a period.
The biggest reason Maroon won 3 cups is because he fit in the cap structure of really good cap strapped teams and he chose to play for cups rather than money...not to down play him because I think he was a good player.

Anyway I'm not too young to understand that, I'm just not so hard headed I can't recognize the rules have changed and you can't just go beat people up and call it even under the current NHL rules. Trust me I'd prefer the NHL and society allowed more of it but they don't but I don't make the rules

Its not 1986 and guys don't have to fight guys like Twist anymore, no doubt they would be highly effective if the NHL allowed them to force people to fight with them but that is no longer the case and hasn't been for a long time.

We are in an era where the sneaky little [shirt] wins the day because we have castrated those who would stop them.

That was my thought too well said, why would anyone pick a fight with Lucic? Hes going to be by far the worst player in that 5 min major trade every time. So far he doesnt skate well enough to really for a force hitting guys. Idk i havent seen the logic yet i think Sunny can provide a lot of that role and play a meaningful role, that is if Sunny can take the ice

With that thought, who is going to pick a fight with Malott? He jumped a guy last night…punched him the head hard and then looked at Landeskog and told him he’s dead as he was skating off.

And I loved it. There is still something to be said for teams having a guy with a loose screw skating around. Only the heavyweights want to mess with the likes of idiots like Rempe, even though he’s not that good of a fighter. The new age deterrent are guys like Wilson and Olivier. Guys with skill but also whose temper can explode at any moment, and back it up. I would’ve thrown an overpay at Olivier this offseason, although I feel he always wanted to stay in Columbus.

Agree 100 percent. One form of "toughness" is gettin up after the hit, ala The Thomas in Cup when Krug destroyed him. And pretty much anythign Nathan Walker does has aspects of "toughness."

Another form of "toughness" is better defined as "intimidation." And I'll agree with taynos to the extent that a legit beat-down in a fight, which is incredibly uncommon these days, can be intimidating. Somewhat like Pronger had more "presence" than "toughness in this regard. Someone like Reaves had presence and intimidation.
