For those who don't think a manager makes a difference, I'd say Tito easily guided the Reds to at least four or five extra wins they should've lost and it got them into the playoffs.
Oli, on the other hand, cost the Cardinals multiple games w/his poor in game managing.
All completely subjective.
The Reds had an expected W/L of 85-77 and went 83-79 (-2)
The Cards had an expected W/L of 74-88 and went 78-84 (+4)
The problem with the Cards is not Oli. Yes, I think the team should clean house and start over with a fresh, new face, but the hatred of Oli over everything and anything on this forum is just silly.

Sez you, with no evidence.
Here are a couple of facts that might change your mind.
The Reds were -2 games bases on pythag projection and +2 according to baseruns.
For the Cards the numbers were +4 and +5.
I don't say Marmol is the difference but there's no evidence here that he was a detriment either.
I agree with the earlier post that noted the SP the Reds can count on. Those arms are why I picked the Reds to win the NLC in 2024 (pre-Francona). Unfortunately for them and my prediction, that staff was undone by injuries.

I love Tito, but I also cannot discount that he had more actual talent than we had. We don't have any pitchers that are even nearly equal to Andrew Abbott or Hunter Greene. Or Nick Lodolo. Their fourth best pitcher...Brady Singer...would've been our ace. He has double the WAR of any of our pitchers, according to baseball reference. Nick Martinez, their fifth guy (basically)...had a higher WAR than any of our starters by almost a whole point. Our bullpen was better, but as we all know, what good is a good bullpen when your starters are coughing up 4+ runs a game regularly?
I don't know what to make of the Reds in October. I could see them getting bounced without winning a game. Or they could make a deep run. If they play up to their potential, I could see that happening.

Oli is indeed A PROBLEM, as is Dusty.
You're a fan of his which is fine.
The majority of Cardinals fans, if we go by this forum as our sample, aren't and it's not "silly" for them to dislike him.

I suspect so, too, but I don't see them winning a series and then fading out. I think they either get bounced or they go really far. Kinda how I see their state-mates, too.

Not a "fan" of his at all. Another thing that makes this place silly. It's either you have to have a burning hatred of Oli or you have to love him. Zero in between. I'm of the opinion that managers are vastly overrated. I couldn't care less if they fired Oli today, nor will I throw a fit if he's retained for next year.

I have no "burning hatred" for Oli, seems like a nice dude.
But I also have no use for him as our Manager because I haven't seen any growth, outside of bullpen management, from him during his tenure.
What does he do in-game to make a difference, to me it's little to nothing.
His lineup are inane.
He eskews fundamentals fielding teams that are poor baserunners, make silly throws to the wrong base, can't execute a simple bunt play, ect...
No fits here either, (IMO) he's back in 2026 and it'll be another c r a p show.

Starting pitching could carry them, inexperience could betray them.

I just detailed about the point where the season was lost…..Cards were a couple back and our ACE got ONE start in 6 games…..while Miles and Fedde had 4…..and got pummeled. And you think this is the only malfeasance he’s performed as the Cards manager. This guy sat in the dugout in ‘22 while Helsley was injured, getting hit, and blowing the Phillies series. Your believe that “managers don’t matter” is laughable.

“The Reds are the first team in MLB history to have:
no qualifying batter hit .270
no batter hit 25 homers
no pitcher win 15 games
no pitcher notch 200 strikeouts
...in a non-shortened season and yet still make the playoffs.”
So if Cards had a competent ML manager……..
I don’t put too much blame on Oli for this year.
Hot take: if they don’t sell at the deadline, they make the playoffs.
But I’m glad they sold…
The bullpen was fine after they traded them it did well it was the offense and the rotation that was trash the cardinals would have still missed the playoffs especially since if they would have kept helsley the Mets most likely would have made the post season because he was responsible for 5 of the Mets losses

I always said hes a choker. And when he was traded to NY…..I said he would melt…..and he did.
These are humans and ALL the analytical [nonsense] can’t yet do a valid psych scan on who’s mentally tough and who isn’t.
That will be the great differentiator in MLB going forward. All the clones are viewing the speed and spin rate on their IPad and overlooking what’s between the ears.
