“The Reds are the first team in MLB history to have:

no qualifying batter hit .270
no batter hit 25 homers
no pitcher win 15 games
no pitcher notch 200 strikeouts

...in a non-shortened season and yet still make the playoffs.”

So if Cards had a competent ML manager……..

I don’t put too much blame on Oli for this year.

Hot take: if they don’t sell at the deadline, they make the playoffs.

But I’m glad they sold…

Name one good quality exhibited by Oli that wins baseball games. Anyone can sit there and play the IPad odds

And yet, he’d probably have a better 2025 record than Tito if the cards didn’t sell at the deadline.

There are many instances, but the SP alignment around the first Cubs series when the Cards were a couple games back seals the deal
Gray got ONE start over 2 back to back series with Fedde and Miles getting 4. Season over done…..they spiraled down since then. Complete idiocy and again that’s only one instance.

Who’s in charge of setting the 5 man rotation and eventually adding McGreevy?

The POBO fills out the roster. That’s how we got Mikolas, Fedde and AP as 60% of our starters. The manager sets the rotation up for key series. That’s how we got what Goldfan describes above. We had a true one-two punch of incompetence from Mo-Oli.

Mlb talent sucks right now....look at the 04 05 cards team compared to any team in baseball right now...the cubs won 92 games with those bums that toe the rubber for them...ridiculous

Well said. The Mo-Oli combo was the worst management this team has had to endure since I started watching in 1963.

BINGO Basil

Should've been in the Cardinals dugout since 2012 :x

For those who don't think a manager makes a difference, I'd say Tito easily guided the Reds to at least four or five extra wins they should've lost and it got them into the playoffs.

Oli, on the other hand, cost the Cardinals multiple games w/his poor in game managing.

I love Tito, but I also cannot discount that he had more actual talent than we had. We don't have any pitchers that are even nearly equal to Andrew Abbott or Hunter Greene. Or Nick Lodolo. Their fourth best pitcher...Brady Singer...would've been our ace. He has double the WAR of any of our pitchers, according to baseball reference. Nick Martinez, their fifth guy (basically)...had a higher WAR than any of our starters by almost a whole point. Our bullpen was better, but as we all know, what good is a good bullpen when your starters are coughing up 4+ runs a game regularly?

I don't know what to make of the Reds in October. I could see them getting bounced without winning a game. Or they could make a deep run. If they play up to their potential, I could see that happening.

Three NL central teams made the playoffs and we weren't one of them. Another feather in Mo's cap.
