TELL US WHAT THE PLAN IS. I'm good with hanging on if there's a plan, even if it means we take our lumps for a couple years. I don't expect them to tell us what players they're going to target--nobody does that. But give me a plan.

That would be nice. Share a plausible vision of what is possible and how they can get there. And yes it has to be plausible. Expecting to build a farm system so elite that we generate 35-40 annual WAR entirely from homegrown players isn't likely.

But while Busch Stadium is in downtown St Louis, that is not the effective "city center" of the St Louis metro area in any capacity. How different would things be if that ballpark was build in Creve Couer, for example. I wondered if it ever crossed Bill DeWitt Jr.'s mind that the surrounding area he chose to build his ballpark in had the potential to go way, way downhill. There is a video out there of the 2000 Cardinals celebrating in the street with fans after clinching the division. Can you imagine that happening in 2025? Probably in no city but still, that should tell you how far that area has fallen in just 25 years.

Listen to the way they talked in the press conference. I think they believe the Cardinals are integrated into the Midwest, like the Rockies are just in Denver. Especially when DeWitt III is the one talking, you can tell their entire game plan is marketing to those who travel into St Louis from the surrounding region for a weekend series. I want to believe Chaim has the skills to create the product worth marketing. I'm sure he has some tight reigns from Big Bill, but any job is going to have its rules and restrictions and the worker with the right attitude is going to accept those parameters and put his best work on display. Let's wish the Bloom era well.
