Bobby Shantz turns 100 Friday

Post by JohnTudor1985 »

Stood 5' 6" and weighed 139 pounds. Bobby played 15 MLB seasons; won 119 games.

Played 3 seasons with Cards mostly in relief (1962-64); traded to Cubs as part of Lou Brock deal

In 1952, Bobby won the AL MVP (over Mantle); 24-7 280 IP's 2.48 ERA and a 8.8 WAR. He had 27 complete games that year!

He won 8 consecutive Gold Glove awards.

Bobby was a three time all-star, and in 1952 struck out Whitey Lockman, Jackie Robinson and Stan Musial in order.

One of the last links to a different era in baseball. Happy birthday, Bobby.

When we were kids, my dad had a Bobby Shantz signature baseball glove. We had no idea who Bobby was.

But I'm glad I still have the glove.

Happy Birthday, Mr. Shantz!

Bill Greason, nearly the cards’ Jackie Robinson, turned 101 earlier in the month.
