Canning him is the easiest way to signal to fans that you know that there's a major issue, you hear them and are trying a different path. Just the idea of bringing him back optically looks like, as a team, you like where we're going. If you want any fans in the stadium next year that cannot be the message

Re: For all the people wanting Marmol gone
You should note that Tony's last 6 seasons included 2 WS titles.
Re: For all the people wanting Marmol gone
Matheny was undermined by several players who didn’t like his constant push for 110%+ effort.

Matheny was a pitiful manager carried by the veterans from a World Series winning team he inherited.
He preceded to drive the Rolls Royce over the cliff.
Horribly Manager, right up there w/Oli.
Re: For all the people wanting Marmol gone
Maybe because athletes know there is no such thing as 110% effort.
100% is max and a coach/manager stating 110% + comes across as phony to the player.
100% in anything is the ultimate.

Re: For all the people wanting Marmol gone
The Marmot is terrible.
Period.
Whoever replaces him must have zero previous connection to the STL organization.
The WORST thing the team could do is make a stupid legacy marketing play involving the likes of Yad-I or Pujols.
Such a move would be toxic and would further damage the franchise for many years.
It would also be a mistake to turn to familiar organization retreads - Jay, Descalso, etc.
STL needs an experienced, respected, tough leader
My preferred candidates would include Ausmus, Mattingly, Gibbons, Bochy.
Possibly Weiss.
Re: For all the people wanting Marmol gone
I agree with your thinking that the next manager should not have ANY previous ties to the Cardinals.Melville wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 13:37 pmThe Marmot is terrible.

The last manager they hired with zero ties to the organization won 2 World Series.
I hope Bloom agrees with us.

Re: For all the people wanting Marmol gone
Matheny himself said he struggled with communication when he was hired by the royals and said he worked on improving before being hired. Good communication skills is one of the most important things a manager needs to be good at

We can agree to disagree on our OPINIONS of what type of manager Matheny was. That's fine.rockondlouie wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 12:51 pmMatheny was a pitiful manager carried by the veterans from a World Series winning team he inherited.

I do like Mattingly, he did well in an awful situation in Miami. What are your thoughts on Varitek?Melville wrote: ↑05 Sep 2025 13:37 pmThe Marmot is terrible.

Never been a bench coach.
Appears to have been primarily involved in scouting/video/data for game preparation.
Has been retired more than a decade and his coaching career has not really shown advance or progress.
He is a huge question mark who may or may not be managerial material.
That is not a risk STL can afford to take.
