Hey, I love a good bbq. And a holiday family bbq is one of the best! Still, one would think all that Ace $ and responsibility and experience would have helped him not turn in another big old turd of an L....Ordinary Man wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 15:41 pm My guess is, it's a holiday and he had the family BBQ on his mind.

Re: No excuses for Gray today
He will be gone. By refusing a trade he only hurts himself by being a 37 yr old FA vs a trade now he still gets his $35m and can demand an extension to accept. How much of Grays deal are other teams willing to pay. The return will be poor. We need innings. I couldn't predict what they do. But he is only 1 more year.Youboughtit wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 14:03 pmHe needs moved this off season. Team in rebuild and moving now will let him get a final payday. Re: No excuses for Gray today
After today’s start out of the 54 qualifying starting pitchers he is 41st in ERA. There are only 13 qualifying pitchers with a worse ERA. He now has a 4.43 ERA and was signed to be the best pitcher on this team. He has given up more hits than IP and has the 11th most HRs allowed out of the 54 qualifying pitchers.ramfandan wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 11:20 am Why the 'no excuses for Gray ' .. Let's look at how he has pitched overall in 2025
Stats and rankings in the N.L.
Ties for 3rd in most wins .. 12
16th in ERA .. (note: with 5 starters per team x 15 teams= 75 pitchers ) 16th is upper 5th
one of only 12 starters with complete game
one of only 7 pitchers with complete game shutout
12th in innings pitched
8th best in strikeouts in the N.L. 168
WHIP walks & hits per inning .. ranks 10th best 1.18
While he has had bumps during the year, his overall rankings have been quite solid. If the Cardinals had 4 other starters who had the numbers of Sonny Gray this year , this team would be in contention for playoff spot IMO.
Re: No excuses for Gray today
I'm starting to see why Gray moves around a lot. He can't be counted on to shoulder the stopper role. Very disappointing performance today. Doesn't bode well for next year. Maybe they need to force a trade? Then again, maybe he's not pitching at full capacity. One never knows these things.

Not with mediocre Moe, no moving around once you get to the new career death organization with the Cards

It's every one of them too.JuanAgosto wrote: ↑01 Sep 2025 23:39 pm This is the worst starting pitching staff i remember StL having in a long time. These guys really suck.
They really need to find 4 good pitchers for next year.
A nearly impossible task.
Maybe they get lucky with Mathews and Doyle.
They're in bad shape.
