No, it doesn't screw us. A successful reset would emerge with a balance of vets and young talent. Willson doesn't skew that balance in a bad direction. His production is more than servicable for his salary, so find some other position to focus on curing our deficit. RF maybe? C? CF?Shady wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 17:40 pmDo you feel the Cardinals are screwed in trying to make this happen, somehow, in order to enhance the reset? Be creative in your thinking occasionally.JohnnyMO wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 17:36 pmDo you think Contreras would waive his no trade? Noot and Donovan are the two I’d trade in a perfect scenario, but any two of those four is fine if the return is right.
I hold on to Gorman because of the needed power upside and Burly just because I think the other two will bring back more in a trade.
Do you think many teams would have interest if he did waive his no trade?
This could be the most practical way to get some needed '26 starting pitching

The author is more impressed with the Gorman archetype than I. Avg just above the Menzoda line. 20 HR. 100+ strikeouts.
We need pitching but if the plan is to replace Donvan at 2B with Gorman that will subtract a lot of offense.

Don't forget the part about he is their most productive hitter.TheSolution wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 17:14 pmWhich only adds to the complications and validation that it was a very dumb signing.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 16:25 pm(bleep), WillyCon has NTC thru 2026Shady wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 16:20 pmAnother option, trade Contreras. He’s never hit 25 HR’s in his career, hits for a low average, can’t play his main position, blocks others at DH and 1B, and did I mention he’s going to be 34 and has never hit 25 HR’s in a season and he’s taking up DH and 1B.

I’ll tell you what makes sense for you: a lobotomy.Shady wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 16:11 pm https://www.msn.com/en-us/sports/mlb/ca ... 291d&ei=12
Right now, the Cardinals are going to need, at least, two additions to the '26 starting rotation. This makes sense as a way to try to get them.

And don’t forget they’ve been the basement of the division or 10+ games back the entire time he’s been a Cardinal.Talkin' Baseball wrote: ↑30 Aug 2025 21:15 pmDon't forget the part about he is their most productive hitter.TheSolution wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 17:14 pmWhich only adds to the complications and validation that it was a very dumb signing.scoutyjones2 wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 16:25 pm(bleep), WillyCon has NTC thru 2026Shady wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 16:20 pmAnother option, trade Contreras. He’s in his mid 30’s, has never hit 25 HR’s in his career, failed to play the position signed to play, and doesn’t have the power to be signed as a free agent for DH and 1B.
From every single angle, pre-signing to the current moment it made absolutely no sense to sign and pay him.

Not enough slug on offense, not mobile enough on defense. Great trade candidate.Shady wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 17:33 pmThere's more to the advantage of trading Contreras.
