With Bloom taking over, it might be time to move away from in house, past history players/coaches other then spring training or special assignments. What I mean by special assignments would be something like Yadi working with a young catcher for a few weeks or Waino/Carp with a certain pitcher. More of a one on one deal then working with a group.Whatashame wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 12:46 pm This will be an interesting topic over the winter. Does Marmol stay or go. Most of us here would like to see them clean house and move on from Marmol. There has been speculation that Varitek is under consideration. I guess I’m not opposed as long as we let Marmol go plus catchers have made the transition to manager fairly successfully.
Like someone else mentioned, I wouldn’t be against keeping Jay and Descalso but I know someone like Varitek would want his own staff. I’m not opposed to bringing in Schumaker, if he’s interested, coming here and teaming with Jay and Descalso That’s a lot of Cardinal history on the management team but Skip has proven his ability with Miami and I think he could change the culture here. Schumaker, Descalso and Jay could bring a lot of energy to a young club.

Re: Cardinals Minor league hitting coordinator fired
I have no problem moving away from “ in house” people. If Varitek is in consideration, I’m fine with that. What I’m not fine with is excluding someone because he has a Cardinal past. If Varitek is hired and he wants his own staff he should be able to get that. Schumaker is a proven commodity with a Cardinal past. A MOY with Miami and a history with a couple of the current coaches. If this is decided to be the best option then don’t discard them because of a Cardinal past. Just find the best people for the job.HorseTrader wrote: ↑29 Aug 2025 14:20 pmWith Bloom taking over, it might be time to move away from in house, past history players/coaches other then spring training or special assignments. The entire Mo system needs to be cleared out.
The only ML coaches I keep are J. Jay/D. Descalso.

Hire the absolute best coaches, I don't care what organization they came from.
Re: Cardinals Minor league hitting coordinator fired
The Cardinal hitters look as if they are feeling for the ball whereas other teams swing much harder. Media often insinuates that they are trying to cut down on strikeouts by making more contact. Yet, however, there are constant complaints about no power and all singles game. Approach or inability?

I don't know, Kyle Reis is pretty plugged into the goings in in our minor league system, and seems to have a lot of good things to say about him, so I'm not going out of my way to do jumping jacks over a guy most people just heard of getting fired.
But, ultimately, Bloom has to put his guys in, so it is what it is.

You have to wonder why that hasn’t been the plan all along. Then again, Mo’s biggest weakness seems to have been talent assessment… players and coaches. He always seemed to bet on the wrong horses.
Re: Cardinals Minor league hitting coordinator fired
Clean house. And let the new manager choose his coaching staff. The new manager, who obviously needs to work with Bloom but not be a stooge, shouldn't be saddled with any of the old coaches if he doesn't want them.
