I hope this is the first of many changes that Bloom makes, obviously there has been deficient minor league coaches and coordinators that need to be replaced

Good

The entire Mo system needs to be cleared out.

The only ML coaches I keep are J. Jay/D. Descalso.

Why do they deserve to stay?

I'd give Brown another year.

JMO but I don't think Willie wanted to work w/Oli so he said "adios".

Jay has worked well w/the OF'er (some just can't be helped---re: J. Walker who's just not a good OFer).

Descalso (IMO) is the lone voice in Oli's ear that knows what the e f f he's doing, smart baseball guy.

Possibly but the offense has really sputtered....from Bernie:

— Since June 30, a span of 49 games through Wednesday, the Cardinals had scored the fewest runs in the majors and also ranked last among the 30 teams in slugging percentage (.355), OPS (.656).

— Coming into Thursday, the Cardinals had scored three runs or fewer in 55 percent of their games played since June 30. And their record when scoring no more than three runs in a tussle since June 30 is 4-23. Their overall record during that time was 18-31.

— No MLB team has been shutout more often than the Cardinals (8) since June 30. And the Cards have scored one or no runs 13 times in their 49 games.

— In their last 49 games before Thursday, the Cardinals had plated no more than four runs 30 times and had a 5-25 record in those altercations.

— Over the last 49 games, as the blight on offense set in, the Cardinals have had particular difficulty against four-seam fastballs. On heaters clocked at 95+ miles per hour, the Cardinals had the worst batting average in the majors (.170) and ranked 29th out of 30 teams in slugging percentage (.272).

This will be an interesting topic over the winter. Does Marmol stay or go. Most of us here would like to see them clean house and move on from Marmol. There has been speculation that Varitek is under consideration. I guess I’m not opposed as long as we let Marmol go plus catchers have made the transition to manager fairly successfully.

Like someone else mentioned, I wouldn’t be against keeping Jay and Descalso but I know someone like Varitek would want his own staff. I’m not opposed to bringing in Schumaker, if he’s interested, coming here and teaming with Jay and Descalso That’s a lot of Cardinal history on the management team but Skip has proven his ability with Miami and I think he could change the culture here. Schumaker, Descalso and Jay could bring a lot of energy to a young club.

We have no idea if either of those 2 is a legitimate option. So this is all purely speculation. But if it were between those 2 I would say Bloom has his sights set on Schumaker, as he worked with Brown and played with Jay, 2 guys brought in last season. He clearly didn’t have the pull to can Oli and isn’t going to be allowed to do so until Mo is gone but those could have been “laying the foundation” moves to get Schumaker here. Also likely keeps Descalso in house.

Varitek is intriguing to me. Natural leader on some solid Boston teams and played and coached under some good managers. Like you mentioned though you risk losing Jay and Descalso. I like them both. Don’t know if I like them enough to say no to what may be(hypothetically) a better hire. I would like them enough to wanna see Bloom try to entice Varitek to keep them but ultimately not enough that I would be upset if he wanted his own guys in the end

Brant Brown suffering from overuse, needs a rest? Just like so many of our players who can't survive the long summers?
