A good cast (Including It Girl Sydney Sweeney--dressed WAY down) can't save a screenplay constructed out of circa 1990s dark comedy crime movie clichés. I guess people still watch Pulp Fiction and Fargo and think "that doesn't look so hard."
It is.
(For a more entertaining take on this genre, I recommend 2024's Last Stop in Yuma County.)

Re: Americana
I had never even heard of this movie, and it has absolutely bombed at the box office. "It" girl can't even save it. Their marketing for it has been pretty non-existent, so guessing they knew it wasn't any good.

I like Paul Walter Hauser, very good actor in anything that I have seen him in.

Re: Americana
It was well-received at SXSW in 2023, got bought by LionsGate, and then sat around waiting to escape. Distributors these days just don't know what to do with movies like this, ie indie crime movies. I remember even Emily the Criminal--which was a much, much better movie with a good hook that should have been easy to advertise--played once a day at 9pm in its opening week.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑25 Aug 2025 12:12 pm I had never even heard of this movie, and it has absolutely bombed at the box office. Maybe LionsGate was planning to push Sweeney's presence and then she became controversial and they cancelled ALL promotion for the movie? The problem is she's barely recognizable in Americana...so even if her cultural stock were still rising, this would be a hard sell to people wanting to ogle her boobs. (Which I assure everyone are nowhere to be seen.)

I would pay good money to watch Zane McClarnon walk down the street.FrankTheTank wrote: ↑25 Aug 2025 12:12 pm I had never even heard of this movie, and it has absolutely bombed at the box office. Oh, and everyone knows there are two kinds of music, also known as Both Kinds.
Re: Americana
If Americana has Sweeney "dressed WAY down," then what do you call this?
