It's nice that Saggese is getting a good look
Despite struggling, at times. Marmol has stuck with him. He could be a good one in the future. I've read that he's going to get some work in the outfield in spring training. Good move to increase his versatility.

I think I read this topic yesterday somewhere
Re: It's nice that Saggese is getting a good look
So what. Saggese had a much needed, big game tonite.

Agreed- mentioned this the other day on another post - give him all the playing time you can the balance of the season so he gets a chance to develop and the Cards can see what they’ve got.
Great idea to give him some OF work in ST - solid player who has the makings of a super utility player - right handed Danny D - starts 2-3 days a week on the infield- might be a bit early to judge but he doesn’t seem to have the pop or defensive consistency to be a full time starter - so far - perhaps that will change as the season progresses.
Not a knock on him- just a season to date observation.

I think Saggese reminds of a Tommy Edmunds type. He will be a valuable player moving forward.

He should work on switch hitting in spring training, then he could be Foxx right handed and Johnny Mize left handed. Awesome!imadangman wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 21:29 pmHe reminds me of Jimmie Foxx out there

Hes a decent player. Will be a nice utility guy for a few years.
Re: It's nice that Saggese is getting a good look
He had a good minor league year 2 years ago, so sure give him a look. But, he has a 4% walk rate and a 30% K rate with no power. I don't really see how that plays long term. Further, he is not a very good fielder. To be honest, I would rather see the playing time go to Fermin.

"Well, my last repetitive Burleson thread went over like a lead balloon. Wait a minute, Saggese had a good game, I'll go back to beating thar drum. That will really show those malcontent gangbanging Cards Talk nitwits. Shady, you son of a gun!"
Re: It's nice that Saggese is getting a good look
He's a warm body. Nothing he does says he should be playing in the ML. I would rather see Fermin as long as we need some filler.ICCFIM2 wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 01:34 am He had a good minor league year 2 years ago, so sure give him a look. I really like how Arenado’s injury has opened up PT.
Re: It's nice that Saggese is getting a good look
Fermin is 26
Saggese is 23
Let’s see how good Saggese gets as he matures.

Just to remind the OP, you're getting all excited over:
.245 .278 .329 .607
Average at best fielder.
J.A.G.
If you really want to get excited, then you should be calling out Mo the Idiot for not bringing up JJW:
26 GP @ Memphis
9 HR
17 RBI's
25 Runs
.310 .403 .670 1.073
Giving Saggese playing time at 2nd base over JJW is yet another stupid move by Mo.

Re: It's nice that Saggese is getting a good look
Saggese has hit well outside of that ice cold stretch. Id like to see him get chances to prove himself or prove he needs to be discarded. Oli and mo did saggese no favors by benching him and demoting him when he was in the middle of his hot streak earlier in the year. He was gonna cool off but why bench a guy during his hot streak for a guy coming off the il that wasnt hitting prior to il. Just trustrating.rockondlouie wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 08:43 am Just to remind the OP, you're getting all excited over:

Jjs time will come.
The thing concerning about saggese though is the lack of walk rate. He doesmt have a ton of power i think for mlb and he strikes out plenty, so he really needs to improve his batting eye. Or else he is doomed to be medium avg low opb and slg% hitter

You give Saggese as much rope as needed now. Done committed. This will adequately thin out the position if he don’t stick.rockondlouie wrote: ↑20 Aug 2025 08:43 am Just to remind the OP, you're getting all excited over:

Bring JJ up now, he gets limited play on a crowded infield. Not good for rythm and sync toward hitting, which needs constant play.
I let the process play out.
