Church doesn’t fall down making a catch like Edmonds did.Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 10:41 am Jimmy's best season in the minors was 1992 as a 22-year-old, where he split time between AA & AAA. In 1992 he slashed;
.307 .384 .489 .872 w/ 14 HR 68 RBI in 440 ABS
Previous to that, he showed limited power, hitting 6 HRs in 715 A/A+ ABs.
In '93 he was promoted to MLB and in 93-94 hit 5 HRs in 350 ABs.
Then in '95 as a 25 y/o he broke out 33HRs in 558 ABs and a slash line of;
.290 .352 .536 .888
Now, I am not saying Nathan Church will turn into Jimmy Edmonds, but you never know. His progression has actually been pretty similar. Between '22 & '24 he had 1,032 ABs between A, A+, AA and hit 12 HRs. He slashed .270 .355 .360 .715. Then he broke out this year as a 24 y/o between AA & AAA , Church broke out with the following slash line;
.329 .386 .524 .911 w/ 13 HRs in 347 ABs.
He just turned 25 y/o and has recently been promoted. I don't expect him to have Jimmy's power #'s, but we may all be surprised if he is a 20+ guy with good speed and defense in CF posting a high .700 to .810 type of OPS.
Who knows? He is definitely a scratch-off ticket, and one can dream. The comps are a little similar, though.

Re: Jimmy Edmonds / Nathan Church
He looks smooth out in CF. Should have hadcan assist last night. When all is said and done I think he'll be better than Scott. Time will tell if its with the Cardinals or not.
Re: Jimmy Edmonds / Nathan Church
It's gonna be nice having Edmonds in CF, Windfield in RF, and Ozzie at SS for the next few years!Basil Shabazz wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 18:14 pm Some of y'all take things do literally. It’s a dream comp based on similar power progression in MiLB.
I clearly inferred it was a dream scenario for Church.
Have a little fun gang.
The interesting thing about Church is all the raving about his defense now. I didn't hear one word about his skill level defensively from the draft up to this year. He played RF exclusively in college and mostly left and right field all through the minors. Likewise, he's rather redundant with all of our LH hitting outfielders. He was late 30s, early 40s on most every prospect list before the 2025 season, so I am definitely happy with his progress.

So the Cards now have an OF of Nimmo-Edmonds and Winfield.
Not bad, not bad at all.
