Are we holding the Brewers to the same standard as the Cards? The last time they were in the NLCS was 7 years ago and they lost. The Cards make the NLCS and lose and Cards Talk deems it a bad season.
The Brewers have never won a World Series and the last time they were in the World Series was 1982, 43 years ago.
The last time the Reds were in the NLCS was 1995 and they got swept. Was this a successful season?
The last time the Reds won a world series was 1990, 35 years ago.
Yeah, both are better this season, but if neither team does anything in the playoffs, how can you say it's any better than the Cards from 2019-2022?
Two teams in our divsion spend less than the Cardinals and have better records .. Is it more than $$$ spent ?

But…..many followers, and some on this board, endorsed those signings..

Have you been watching Cardinals Baseball the last 3 yrs??? And the timeframe you reference was the last dying breath of anything that closely resembled the Great Winning Era. Remember that a 45 yr old Pujols had to come back and carry the team the 2nd half of ‘22…..the was the last it…done and overcardinalsfever44 wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 09:54 am Are we holding the Brewers to the same standard as the Cards? Drafting and developing players, and spending money wisely for needed pieces is the key. A $300 M payroll is not a guarantee of success.ramfandan wrote: ↑18 Aug 2025 15:17 pm Most baseball followers know that the Brewers (best record in baseball 78-45 ) rank 23rd in payroll spending $113 M . The Cincinnati Reds are 65-60
ranking 22nd with $119M payroll.
While many posters do not expect the Cardinals to be in the Top 5 payroll teams (LAD, NYM, NNY, Phi, Tor ) , many of those would like to see a substantial increase in payroll.
The Texas Rangers rank 7th $222M and have a sub .500 record 62-63
Atlanta is 9th 56-68 at $213 M
LA Angels are 11th 60-64 and spend $204 M
Arizona DBacks 13th are 60-65 at $177 M
The SF Giants 14th are 60-64 at $174 M
What total $$$ do you feel DeWitt should commit to the Cardinals payroll ? and what win total would you expect for that expenditure ?
Final note: The NYM payroll for 2025 is $339 M and they have won 5 more games than the Cardinals who spent $129 M

-Reds smart move hiring T. Francona.
-BDWJr/Mo idiots for passing on T. Francona when he practically begged them for the job after TLR's retirement.

And that's why Mo campaigned against Tito, he knew he'd get big time heat like he got from TLR.Goldfan wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 10:23 amBut how would Mo/Girsch analytical nerds run the game with a strong experienced MLB manager???rockondlouie wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 10:18 am -Reds smart move hiring T. Exactly. Mo wanted full control. He wanted to be in charge. He thought he was smarter than everyone else and would become a modern Branch Rickey. He hired yes men and puds. His analytics guru is now Fredbird's booking agent.Goldfan wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 10:23 amBut how would Mo/Girsch analytical nerds run the game with a strong experienced MLB manager???rockondlouie wrote: ↑19 Aug 2025 10:18 am -Reds smart move hiring T. So, a good, successful manager like Francona got away because Mo wanted power. I'd like to know what that jerk has on the DeWitts. Nobody keeps a job with declining results and revenue.
