Re: PTOs
I have no idea but I don't think R Suter will be in for a tryout. I don't think he liked being benched for Tucker vs the Jets. I recall hearing something along those lines. Of course nobody (especially a veteran) wants to be scratched in the playoffs.

At any rate, Suter more than earned his keep last year.b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑17 Aug 2025 19:50 pm I have no idea but I don't think R Suter will be in for a tryout. Re: PTOs
Vlasic was bought out by San Jose and says he's looking to keep playing - I have no clue what level he can play at.

You fellows are both right. Suter has not been scratched from a single Regular season game... in the past four seasons.MikoTython wrote: ↑18 Aug 2025 05:49 amAt any rate, Suter more than earned his keep last year.b-a-a-a-rclay wrote: ↑17 Aug 2025 19:50 pm I have no idea but I don't think R Suter will be in for a tryout. He mentioned that his kids are still small and how he would like to actually watch them grow up, soon.
I will miss his Bowery Boy grin and his hilariously cagey tricks.

Re: PTOs
I liked Suter and the stability and vet presence he brought but we also ended up paying him $3M last season…a lot of which will actually show up on our 2025-26 Cap. Many think we only paid him league minimum but we also paid him an extra $2.25M in performance bonuses. PuckPedia shows the Blues as having a Bonus Overage of $2,153,475 tacked on for this season, which makes sense as the Blues had minimal cap room when the regular season ended in April. You’re allowed to go over the cap if it’s because of end of year bonuses but then the overage gets charged to the following season’s cap. This now leaves the Blues $2.15M less to spend this season. So far that’s not a problem but I say all that to say this: we can’t do that again. I liked Suter but he wasn’t worth $3M IMO. If he or someone similar would be willing to sign a PTO or perhaps a league minimum to ~ $1M contract (no additional potential bonuses), then I’d be ok with it. But if Suter will only play with incentives, then he can retire or try his hand with one of the other 31 teams.Harry York 37 wrote: ↑18 Aug 2025 09:00 amYou fellows are both right. Re: PTOs
^^ Good info. I knew he probably cashed in on bonuses, but nothing like 3M worth.

I knew he was cashing them in, and I agree 3 million is too much.MikoTython wrote: ↑18 Aug 2025 16:32 pm ^^ Good info. I knew he probably cashed in on bonuses, but nothing like 3M worth.

So all he had to do to earn them was be in the lineup…with the last one tied to also making the playoffs, which we barely did.$225K for 10 GP -- $400K for 30 GP -- $500K for 40 GP -- $600K for 60 GP -- $500K for playoffs and at least 60 regular season GP

Re: PTOs
He was a major stabilizing presence on the backend early in the season before we picked up Fowler. He certainly earned some of that bonus money helping keep the Blues from completely bottoming out. But by the postseason he just looked like he couldn’t really keep up. Dallas saw the same thing a season ago.

Awesome. I’m glad he went out making all his bonuses and being a valuable member of a resurgent team.
His career has been remarkable. Ten consecutive seasons as a top 20 Norris candidate, six of those were consecutive top 10 finishes. He was a runner up once and finished 4th, 5th, 8th (twice), and 9th once in that streak.
I will miss him, for sure. That vengeance goal he scored after Perry kicked Binner in the head was choice.

Re: PTOs
IIRC, in Edmonton, in a scoreless game in early April Perry kicked Binner in the mask as he lay prone and helpless. Binner lost his mind (in a more mature way than he would have a few years earlier) and we came out of the scrap short-handed. Suter broke up a play near our blue line on the PK, poking the puck to Buchnevich who carried it into the Oiler zone with Suter on his wing, as pinhead Evan Bouchard does…nothing. He threads one past the pinhead and Suter dekes the bejeezus out of the Oil goalie to stun the crowd and give the six Blues fans a chance to stand right up and yell.

He only scored one other goal all season.

He channeled Bobby Orrtuzo from the Sharks game 2 2019 playoffs on that goal.Harry York 37 wrote: ↑18 Aug 2025 21:15 pm IIRC, in Edmonton, in a scoreless game in early April Perry kicked Binner in the mask as he lay prone and helpless. Re: PTOs
Ex-Bruin forward Milan Lucic, long-time vet, in for a look. Interesting choice. Better than 0.5 ppg in playoff hockey.
