PTOs
Army traditionally likes to give competition to challenge youngsters trying to make the team. Some make it - James Neal. Some don't - Ryan Whitney, Paul Bissonnette. Any ideas who might be given a PTO before training camp?

Re: PTOs
I think a veteran defenseman is plausible to make sure Mailloux, Tucker, and Kessel don’t take anything for granted. Our forward ranks are pretty stocked as is.
Re: PTOs
I definitely think we are bringing in a veteran defenseman to push Kessel, Tucker and Mailloux.
Wouldn’t be surprised if we dangle an AHL contract for a forward also. Springfield is going to have a very young team next year.
I also could see a goalie brought in just to even up the squads.

I’d agree with this. Someone like Jon Merrill.bluetunehead wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 10:33 am I think a veteran defenseman is plausible to make sure Mailloux, Tucker, and Kessel don’t take anything for granted. Our forward ranks are pretty stocked as is.

You don't trade Bolduc just to play Mailloux in the AHL...Mailloux has a spot if healthy. Basically if healthy the D is already set. I see maybe one forward spot open for a potential PTO to get a shot, but still you'll have two of Sunny, Joseph, and Texier sitting every game, assuming Dvorsky doesn't make it or Carbonneau doesn't make a Perron type play and wins a spot.

Re: PTOs
They didn’t acquire Mailloux for immediate help. He’s obviously going to be given a chance to make the team (Armstrong has said as much), but that doesn’t mean they’re going to make it easy for him. The only young defenseman on this team that really has a roster spot locked down is Broberg. Everyone else needs to continue to prove they belong.smilinjoefission wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 17:08 pm You don't trade Bolduc just to play Mailloux in the AHL...Mailloux has a spot if healthy. Re: PTOs
A PTO d-man would probably be competing with Kessel for the #7 job more than competing with Mailloux but it wouldn’t hurt to have a vet to push Tucker and Mailloux, provide some stability and a bit of a safety net.smilinjoefission wrote: ↑16 Aug 2025 17:08 pm You don't trade Bolduc just to play Mailloux in the AHL...Mailloux has a spot if healthy. Re: PTOs
No, but he was a 21gl man (50pts in 62gp) 99pims in the KHL last yr (and 13pts 7gls in 15po games); and IMO Bjug's is a 'big' waste of money (at least it not big money).

Re: PTOs
The KHL is probably the 4th best league in the world these days. Comtois was a tweener. I see near no value in him as an NHLer. Bjugstad was hampered by a back injury and then surgery last season but was still much much better than Comtois. Hopefully he’s fully healed and had a great summer and will be even better this season.

Yeah, I agree that this is likely to happen. I wouldn't be shocked to see Suter back, but he may not want to be a healthy scratch 50% of the time.
